It is a matter of correctly interpreting what is written in scripture. It is not sufficient to say something is in scripture so it must be the truth. It is the (Catholic) interpretation of the written word that tells us what the real truth is and what any passage means.
The biblical truth is, that there is such a gift given to those who God gives it and to those also who ask for it and are given it for reasons that God designates and they were firstly given on the day of Pentecost. They are given today to those who God wishes. They are a freely given gift for the building up of the church, even if they might not be used openly, or in many church gatherings or other than at times when such people who posess the gift tend to use them.
The point is that in the CATHOLIC church gatherings whether in big or small or groups, or silently or openly or quietly the gift if there in the catholic church. It is a living gift from God to all. But not all use it.

I know as well as you know that this is truth, the point I believe you might be saying is that there are those who for what ever reason may not believe in the gift. fI accept that to, that is their choice, and I don’t mind at all.

Godbless.

What you said is not what I’ve been discussing. We believe what the Bible says about the events that happened in the past. My question is “are we required to believe all the events reported in the Bible must be happening today with the exact way specifically - praying in tongue”?

Good point, and here is what I believe and i mentioned to a priest some time ago.
As the God head is tri in trinity, so also is the word of God (bible) in that it is made up of a tri relationship.
1: the old testement, relates to the creation ( God the Father), the law and leading up to the mercy of God as fortold by the prophets.
2: the new testement, relates to the mercy of God as fortold and led into (the life of Jesus) The mercy head of God shown by Jesus and expected by mankind. And Jesus said “I did not come to CHANGE a word of the old testement, but to fulfill it”
3: The revelations, relates to the culmination of The Father the Son and the Holy Spirit as fortold all through the old and new testements.
Can you understand that what I am saying is that although the old testement was old (of those days) still they are of the tri God head. Therefore they cannot be be stated as being ONLY of those days with NO use of this day because Jesus came not to change.
I believe that the word cannot change however it is the “application” of the word that changes for this day and age.

So praying in tounges is still alive today otherwise it would not be being used at all. However the application of the use of toungs my have changed since the introduction (in the catholic church) of the mass, and other prayers.

I enjoy toungs openly and closed at mass as with others and that is our right and joy. It may not be others, that is their right, Godbless them any way, they are my brothers and sisters still.

I believe the Church leaves this up to individual to believe.
I don’t mind either way, it is still God’s gift to who ever.

I realise and accept that God does indeed give gifts to some people. The point I am trying to make is that it is ONLY the Church that can discern if the gift is real and if it has been given to a certain person. It is plainly ridiculous for someone to simply claim and insist they have the gift of tongues and not to submit to the Church for this discernment. That is pride!

I know you did not comment specifically about tongues when you mention gifts building up the Church but I just want to say anyway that the gift of tongues does NOT build up the Church. Paul specifically states this and he advises people not to speak in tongues which is the least of gifts.
1 Cor 14:1-40.

Please read 1Corinth 14:4, benefit for self,
1Corinth 14: 13 - 15 glorify in the spirit
1Corinth 14: 18 Thanks God he uses it more than others, why would he mention this if it were no good?" " " 14: 21 - 23 For the inspiring of non-believers

Well here are a number of interesting points that should be read. The main point here is that the word “church” means “us”, the people. Have you ever heard God speak to people with a message in toungs and then have another interpret? I won’t go into it but I thought WHAT…? they were all english before? Little did I know the jpower of the HOly Spirit, which is exactly what it was, as Paul relates

Paul states in 1 Corinth 14: 27 about the use of tounges, and if you think of why it would be used then you would realise that there is a place for it in the “church” if there is an interpreter.

Remember that this is not an arguement but that it is comment and that the end product is the fact that Jesus tell’s us that even the littlest part of the body has a part in the building up of the church.
Meaning that although I might be able to create miracles in the name of Jesus and there might be another who feels that they can only clean the toilet, each has their part neither is greater, the glory goes to God on high.

Seek therapy? Talk to a priest?
Do you speak in tongues while you are awake?
Are you now or have you every been a Pentacostal or a Chariamatic?

Dreams are dreams. They bring up things from the unconcious mind and mix them all up. I am a vivid dreamer. I have dreams that cause great anxiety: It’s the first day of school I don’t have my books or I can’t find my class. I wake up and ask myself what I am anxious about.

I have had dreams where I confront evil or an evil person. I usually use English and I usually use words like, “In the name of Jesus…”

I have had a few dreams that I consider are unique, different from other dreams, possibly sent by God live the dream I had after I miscarried my second child. I was at my grandmother’s home and all my deceased aunts and grandmothers were there. It was like a heavenly baby shower. My grandmother took my baby, a little girl, and called her Bridget Anne. She laid her in a bassinett and I looked down at my baby and saw that she looked a bit like my daughter, Andrea. I woke up with a start. My feelings of missing those I loved was still with me. I said to myself, “Bridget Anne” My grandmother’s name and her twin sister’s name. I never thought of naming my child those names. But I can tell you, I refer to my little child as Bridget Anne now.

I would recommend that you talk to your pastor or your confessor about this. In the mean time, ask our Lord and our Lady to help you understand what this dream is about. As for therapy, I don’t think it would hurt anyone (I’m a therapist myself), you may be more sane than most of us.🙂
