Join with me in prayer for him, and for all those whom he represents, which are many. He is the main incentive for me becoming a prayer warrior on CAF,and this has been a great Apostolate for me.
I shall, and I can identify with what you say!! 👍
His role is make the Truth shine more purely:
1 Cor 11:19
19 Indeed, there have to be factions among you, for only so will it become clear who among you are genuine.
Factiousness also has a role in the Kingdom, and in bringing this divisiveness here to CAF, the outcome is that the Truth may shine forth as even more genuine. 👍
I can only say that it is through people like that…and the challenges that they issue…I have had cause to learn more about my religion, my faith, and my Church…and myself. They have been the driving force behind my “reversion” to the Church, and in that sense… I owe them a debt of gratitude!! 👍 👍 👍

ja4 carries a large backpack labeled “anti-Catholic bigotry ammunition”. Out of this, he will pull anything and everything that might be useful to derail a thread. He is not here to learn about Catholicism, but to encourage Catholics to question and reject their faith. He has also been known to attempt to thwart persons who are sincerely here to inquire.

With regard to the topic he "just don’t get it’ because he does not want to get it. He wants to give it!
that rather sums up my opinion of a lot of posters on the forums…

I do believe you are correct!😃

What I see his actions as being are as this: :banghead: :hypno: :banghead: “ad infinitum”…

His biggest problem is that he has failed on all counts. His opinions, taken singly…only amount to “an opinion”…and an opinion not 100% supported by incontrovertible facts…is merely “an opinion”… (Now…picture Bugs Bunny saying "Th…Th…Th…That’s all folks!)
:extrahappy: :tiphat: :highprayer:

Actually, “meditation” is one of the subject covered in the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

***The Fruits of Meditation (2707-2708)

Christians have a duty to meditate regularly so they will be good soil for God’s Word. Meditation mobilizes our inner faculties and deepens our faith to bring about conversion. Believers must meditate on the mysteries of Christ (as in the rosary), and then go further to a union with Jesus.***

Here is an article that appeared in “This Rock” and the link is on this site…its a good read, will take a few minutes, but it comes to a rather concise conclusion on the subject:

Peace!😃
Thanks for the links. Can you explain what Catholics mean by meditation? I didn’t find any “how to” in the link on the Fruits of Meditation.

The link on Centering Prayer equates it with Transendental Meditation which is a variation of Hindu medtitation. Both of these are quite different than meditation in Buddhism especially in the tradition I follow. Some forms of Hindu meditation begin with concentration on the breath but after that there seems to be quite a difference based on the information in the article. I don’t think you will ever see Buddhists walking around like zombies. There is a walking meditation but it is far from self hypnosis or zombie walking. Here is a link to studies done by Harvard on Buddhist meditation and its effect on the brain.

According to this study:
“Our data suggest that meditation practice can promote cortical plasticity in adults in areas important for cognitive and emotional processing and well-being,” says Sara Lazar, leader of the study and a psychologist at Harvard Medical School."

Actually in Buddhism a more accurate phrase would be mindfulness and concentration rather than meditation. There is no Pali word that translates as meditation just as there is no word that translates as enlightenment. These words became part of Western awareness by translations that became popular during the Victorian Age. By the time more accurate translations were available meditation and enlightenment were too entrenched to change.

Thanks for the links. They were very informative. It appears that the word meditation can have many meanings. The Catholic meditation could also be called visualization. Whatever it is called the key is to have a focused disciplined mind. The way to get a focused disciplined mind is to meditate. 😉

Catholicism is not noted for meditation. Why do you think that is? I know a lot of Catholics and none of them meditate. I try to mediate daily. Do you meditate, and if so, how often?

The techniques and focus are very different but I wonder if Catholic meditation would have the same effect on the brain as Buddhist meditation?

My pleasure! Either many meanings or facets. 🙂

I think its possible that many Catholics associate the word “meditate” with Eastern or Oriental Philosophies… For Catholics I think that generally speaking the word “contemplation” is more accurate… I try to often… but my downfall is my over active mind…seems I am always thinking about something or other. In order to go to sleep I have to “contemplate” and calm my thoughts. I often do that with prayer.
So I guess…most every night.

Good question. I’m not familiar with Buddhist meditation…but if the focus or desired effect has to do with “calming” the mind and thoughts…there could be some similarities.🙂

There are quite a few topics going on now… too many for one thread. Please feel free to open new threads for your individual discussions.

God bless-
