Has anybody ever read the book, “The Hunger Games”? If so, great book, right? If not, I highly reccommend it. It’s considered teen lit, but it deals with much more serious issues than teen lit. Highly, highly reccommended.

For those who don’t know the plot, it’s a dystopia novel. I’l summarize a LOT to get to the point. Long story short, for various reasons the capitol nation of the country they’re in has an annual hunger games, where your name is submitted into a lottery and if you’re chosen you’re forced to participate in a deat match inside of a specially made area designed to get the contestants to attack each other.

Well, the MC ends up being one of the final three people alive in the Hunger Games (the final two survive. Her friend is the other survivor). Their only competitor is on the ground being slowly ripped apart by wild dogs (I told you it was more than teen lit). The Capitol is making sure his death is extra slow to ensure that the people are entertained. The MC is horrified. The person being ripped apart by the dogs manages to drag himself closer to the MC. He begs her to kill him to end his pain. The MC obliges, burying an arrow in his head.

The question is, is that murder? The book clearly didn’t think so. They considered it the only moral thing to do…end this poor person’t life quickly instead of prolonging the pain.

So, long story short, is what the MC of the Hunger Games did at the end of the book murder?

Sorry for the long post. You all should really read the book, it’s excellent. 👍

In that situation, you don’t have any choice but to murder people. They will torture you more and more until only one person is alive.

I just read your post a thousand times trying to figure out what MC stands for 😉

The book is just amazing!! I have never really thought about it in that light before… I suppose that would be quite wrong :o Otherwise a wonderful series that has gotten much less attention than it deserves.

Definitely 😃 My younger sister got me into them and lent them to me as well! Other good series we’ve discovered are Inkheart and Alex Rider. (also kids books 😃 but much better than Twilight and Harry Potter.) And of course Narnia, but everybody’s read those already 😛

Interesting book. But I’d like to change the story around and make it a little more personal from the stance of myself or a loved one savagely and lethally
being ripped apart by the dogs
In such a high emotional moment of desperation.

Certainly; if I was being chewed and ripped apart by a pack of ravenous dogs or wolves and one of my brothers or sisters were a safe distance away from me with a gun or rifle; out of desperation I’d yell out them to kill me knowing they were powerless to do anything to stop this situation. Perhaps yes; this would be a form of euthanasia or mercy killing in the eyes of many. But given the exact same situation at the heated spear of the moment how would anyone else here feel so different if it was you or a loved one going through the exact same ordeal with all moral considerations from the teachings of the Catholic Church? It’s a heated question indeed given the situation. I’m not so sure I’d pass the test. And as a Catholic I’m definitively against euthanasia.

But I think the situation painted above is a far cry from watching a loved one dying in a hospital were there is humane care by medical professionals.
