I think gay stuff is funny

This is true. Most rape crimes in prisons are commited by non-gay men on non-gay men.

For those wondering, I received a pamphlet on Sexual harassment in prison…

… from our local minimum security prison…

… when I was put into a holding cell a few nights ago for pleading “not guilty” for missing a court date. 😊

I thought the date was the 23rd. Turns out it was the 21st.

My mother bailed me out within seven hours.
What is your definition of gay? If a man is able to sodomize another man how is that not homosexual behavior? Is the non-gay men in reference to men who are also capable of committing heterosexual acts? And if so doesn’t this prove that their is a lot more to homosexual behavior than genetics?

Another problem we have is a man in a soap is shown as straight and acts in a way that make people dislike him (other characters and people who watch it) but when he turns gay or realises he is gay, all of a sudden, he turns into a pillar of society.

EastEnders.

I find their feminine antics funny, not the immoral sex. Is that somehow disordered?
I would examine my conscience to see why you are doing this. Do you think it’s right? Would you want to be laughed at or treated with such indignity?

The Vatican (the Pope) admonishes against any unfair treatment towards homosexuals.

Letter from the Pope to his Bishops:
  1. It is deplorable that homosexual persons have been and are the object of violent malice in speech or in action. Such treatment deserves condemnation from the Church’s pastors wherever it occurs. It reveals a kind of disregard for others which endangers the most fundamental principles of a healthy society. The intrinsic dignity of each person must always be respected in word, in action and in law.

I think by the definition of the DCDC, “gay” means they would prefer to fornicate with other men rather than women. In other words, the men who rape other men would prefer to have women. But prison being what it is, they can’t find any.

So, if you like, yes, there is more to sodomy than genetics. If you can’t find any women, and you really want sex, sometimes the fact that it’s a guy takes a secondary position.

Also remember, the men who do this sodomizing aren’t exactly the cream of the crop in Christian morals. 😉

The presence of open homosexuals in militaries doesn’t seem to have done anything at all to militaries of plenty of other nations around the world.
Not that I have an opinion about this but I would challenge that and say that the gay friendly militaries you mention do not do much fighting. The Americans do the vast bulk of the heavy lifting in Iraq and Afghanistan. The gay friendly militaries are under represented there and even when present do little in comparison. What does the German army do for instance?
I find it kind of odd that you would suggest that our military is so weak that it would be “ruined” by something that has had virtually no negative effects in other militaries around the world.
Ditto.

It’s not necessarily treating them with indignity, malice or unfairness. In many cases they are actively trying to make people laugh at their antics, and often being paid to do so.

I can tell you that the Australian troops were very relieved when the Netherlands recalled its troops who had been supposedly sharing the policing of Afghanistan’s Oruzgan province with the Australians. The Dutch were worse than useless, they were a liability. The Aussie soldiers said that “Dutch” is an acronym for “Don’t Understand The Concept Here”.

In the beginning of the day I think that it’s [laughing at homosexual people] wrong, but at the end of the day, I can’t help laughing at the folly of it [homosexuality] all.

Is that so wrong? It might be, though I’ve always thought that folly implies a certain contradiction and since contradictions are funny, I thought that follies were funny too. Is this wrong, to laugh at our or other’s faults?

Forgive me for saying so, but that sounds suspiciously like the way one would begin an opinion.

It’s alright: you can just say that you have an opinion. Even better, since everything you think is, by definition, your opinion, you can just leave that part implicit and get right to your point.

So what? They train, they live in close quarters, etc., etc. If homosexuals in militaries created problems, we’d be able to see it in other militaries, even if they are actually used less than our military.

What some people are asking us to believe is that the American military is so weak and so…well…sensitive – not to mention immature – that merely knowing that some of their fellow soldiers are different in some way is going to send all of the straight soldiers into a tizzy and “ruin” an otherwise perfectly powerful fighting force.

I mean, what the heck?

Further, what about the historical example of the ancient Greek armies, which encouraged sexual relationships between male soldiers in order to strengthen their bonds on the battlefield? Homosexuality certainly didn’t “ruin” the Greek army.

I’m reminded of that hysterical line from The Bird Cage: “Then I learned Alexander the Great was a [homosexual]…talk about gays in the military!”

Tarkan:
it’s fairly reasonable to suppose that straight men rape other straight men in prison
I don’t doubt that these rapists want to think of themselves as straight.

Possibly, it’s a problem with labeling. Some people will tell you that there’s no such thing as a “homosexual” or a “heterosexual.” Those words describe sexual acts. People in general are on a scale that tends to lean toward heterosexual practices or toward homosexual practices.

I was thinking that maybe we find it funny precisely because it is wrong. When we see a man being effeminate we instinctively know that something is awry. Perhaps it speaks to the folly of it all. That being said, it is almost “cool” to be gay in some areas these days.

So would you agree that it’s wrong or would you disagree?

I think it is" wrong" to be effeminate and by wrong I mean disordered. I think if a gay person is entertaining in the “will and grace” sort of way then we as a society laugh at it like we laugh at anything that we find funny. But it is wrong to have amusement and laugh at someone who is not seeking that response.
In short. When a guy comes up to you and goes “HEYYYYY Girlfriend”, laugh. But when a guy is serving your meal DONT LAUGH.

To Catholicpotato:

So when gay people are being entertaining in a “will & grace” way it’s okay?

I’m not just acting stupid, I really am just double checking.

No, that isnt what I mean. I guess what I am saying is that if we are laughing at someone then that isnt right. But if they are trying to make us laugh then that is not a sin on our part. However, it is worth noting that we find it funny BECAUSE it is not the way it is supposed to be. Like when a tough guy in a movie is in a dress.

Well, there is a scripture somewhere that says we are all to keep ourselves from all “superfluity of naughtiness,” and I’m sorry I don’t know the exact Bible verse. I believe we can have a sense of humor, but as Catholic Christians, we wouldn’t want to offend someone who misunderstood exactly “why” we are laughing. I wouldn’t want anyone to think I was dis-respectful to any person. Just my humble opinion here:)

I have been uncertain about this thread from the beginning.

if you are laughing at people out of mean-spiritedness (laughing at their sin or laughing because they are sinning), then it is wrong.

if you are laughing at a comedy, such as the gay character in Reno 911, then that’s a different discussion.

please elaborate.
