I think I did something wrong at Mass today

I am allergic to wheat so I have been told that I can receive the Precious Blood at Mass.
I went to a convent today for Mass and a woman arranged it so I could drink from the chalice (only the cloistered Nuns receive both forms, the rest do not).
Anyway, after the sign of peace the priest told me to come up to the altar. He gave me the chalice and told me to receive and I did but then realized that he hadn’t drank and we hadn’t said the “Lord, I am not worthy to receive You, just say the word and I shall be healed”.

This made my husband concerned when I told him. Did I do something wrong? Is this a sin?
Thanks

I am not absolutely certain but you obeyed the Priest so I don’t think you sinned. He might not even have been aware of the timing of it all, just wanted to make sure you got the Precious Blood especially since this was an unusual request for him to have at the Convent.

Was this also before he drops a piece of the host in the Cup? He may have been trying to make sure you get absolutely no wheat! If this was the case and you aren’t that sensitive, then let him know that for next time.

You didn’t know it was sinful, and merely wished to unite yourself completely to God, it was not a sin.

No that would not be sinful in any way. At most it might be a liturgical error. However I would think that the priest was making sure that you did not receive even in the slightest way any particle of Host. If there were two chalices he should have whent ahead with the Lamb of God and the Fraction using one chalice as usual and allowed you to receive from the other with a small amount of precious Blood in it.

I have to wonder if the main mistake here (perhaps even extending to an offense against charity) wasn’t in singling out this poor person by making her conspicuously come up at the inappropriate time and receive from the cup all by herself. It could have been done discretely during regular communion without anyone but the priest and whoever she had spoken to knowing what was going on.

From reading posts in these forums and information elsewhere, it may be that the priest also was sensitive to the fact that he didn’t want any residue from his lips to be on the rim of the chalice.
You know what I mean?

I’m not faulting you or the priest for anything. Once in a while we have to allow that others know what they’re doing and just go with that. We need to lighten up sometimes and suspend our judgments. Come on now, you asked for a special treatment and you got it.

I’m sure that somebody could fill a book with exceptions to normal rubrics that are permitted and even desireable for pastoral reasons. More probably, such cases are left to the discretion of the celebrating priest.

Faith, faith, faith!

I was just recently diagnosed with Celiac disease (wheat allergy) and am new to making these requests.

This Mass was small, maybe 15 other people in the small church and I appreciate that the priest allowed me to receive Communion. It isn’t that I don’t “trust” his decision, however I don’t want to be responsible for causing a disturbance in the Mass either.

I’m not exactly sure how you meant that I got special treatment. Maybe you meant allowances, but I certainly did not want to be singled out in any way.

The other priest who was there two weeks ago concluded all prayers, and brought me the chalice right before the Nuns. In this instance the different priest brought me up before the prayers were finsihed to receive.

It sounds as if the priest has been fully briefed on your allergy and is aware that perhaps even the small particle of the host placed in the chalice after the fraction might pose a problem for you, so he was being very careful to make sure you drank beforehand. In any case the priest is in charge of the liturgy, you obeyed his direction. No blame no foul.

No, I don’t. What do you mean? Are you talking about fragments of the Host from the Celebrant’s lips?
