Sooo, I gave DH his birthday present a little early. In keeping with the “if we can’t eat or drink it, don’t get it” theme, I got him a Mr. Beer beermaking kit.

Well, he’s got a batch brewing and he’s making all these plans for mead and wine and more beer. He’s MOVING THINGS AROUND IN MY KITCHEN!!!

What hath I wrought?

Anyone else married to a brewmeister?

What an awesome gift! My dh loves the beer of the month things, and so forth, but making his own brew? He’d be in heaven.

Good luck with your husband’s experiments!😃

Maybe you should map out “his” and “hers” sections of the kitchen. And make sure he cleans up after himself. Or, at least, help you keep it clean.

😛 HAHAHA funny you should post this now!! My DH loves making his own brews… He started almost 10 years ago before we even got married, and hasn’t looked back since. He’s done honey mead, wine, beer… Right now, we have about 30 bottles of wheat beet in cases, and another Belgian beer in the carboy, along with a German apple wine (hard apple cider, anyone?), and plans for a homemade root beer and another kind of Belgian beer are in the making… :frighten:
He recently decided that he never wants to go through the bottling again, so he’s making a kegerator. Yes, that’s what I said. It’s a retrofitted chest freezer that takes up half (well not quite, but almost!) of our basement family room. It holds not 1, not 2, but FOUR kegs, and will soon have the taps coming right out the front… as in, “Honey, since you’re up, could you go down and draw me a beer?” sigh. We hath no knobs on most of our kitchen cabinets but we HATH A KEGERATOR!! Priorities, right? :whacky: :bigyikes::love:

I gave my husband a wine-making kit for Christmas a few years ago and awakened the beast 😃 Now he makes all sorts of different wines, beer, hard cider, and my favorite----chocolate truffle port!!

He can use my kitchen anytime, as long as he keeps me supplied in port:) He does have to clean the kitchen afterwards, though!

I had no idea when I married the man that he would turn out to be so very talented; he’s constantly surprising me with what he can do!

So how did that Mead turn out? I love Mead, my sis brought it for thanksgiving a few years back and it was oooh la la.

No my DH doesn’t brew, BUT his friend in WA really got into it. Come summer there are MILLIONS of blackberries growing on the island, so he made tons of blackberry wine, bottling early August. By Thanksgiving those wines tasted like a merlot not sweet at all. FANTASTIC.

If we move back I am making blackberry wine by the wood-keg full I think!

Then me postshts wirl lok lyyyyke thish da resht of ta yyyear.
👍

Hee hee… you should see my kitchen after my DH makes his famous spaghetti sauce! Red spots everywhere! Takes me about an hour to clean up after him.

But it’s GOOD spaghetti sauce… :yup::love:

God bless us all,

Ruthie

👍 Good choice! That’s what dh uses. Dh also has a notebook for taking notes in. He likes to experiment with the sugar in the beer. We have found that different sugars make the beer stronger.

I just asked dh and he said he has roughly 5 batches of beer down in our storm shelter. This amounts to roughly 2 cases. He will bring up a 6 pack and leave the rest down there. Interestingly enough, we discovered that beer is similar to wine in the fact that the older the beer is the better it taste.

We also have the rootbeer kit and the kids absolutely LOVE it. Your dh will have fun. 😃
