I think my house is haunted

Install a camera or voice recorder. Evidence is crucial!
This never works. Have you ever seen a ghost hunting show where the technicians actually produce video of a ghost? The ghosts are much too smart.
I picked up on that as well and found it strange. Not mention I found it odd that a 15 year old would lock a 13 year old in a bedroom
I’d expect this to happen in my house, and it’s not haunted. 😃

If this is/were for real, I’d talk to a priest. Whether or not any of it is true, if someone is deeply disturbed by a situation, the best thing overall is to talk to a priest.

Why are we afraid of ghosts if we trust Jesus? Any demonic or dangerous possibility they have once we tell the devil to be gone in Jesus’ name. You need to truly believe in Jesus to be protected. At the slightest mention of His name by the faithful the devil will coward and vanish.
True, however, demons can taunt even the most devout of people. Mother Teresa is a perfect example. A priest later in her life noticed she was acting strangely. The devil seeks to break down those who have the most faith, that’s why you have to protect yourself.

Actually I have. ghosts or more correctly demons often diliberately speak when they know a voice recorder is on. Occasionally something does show up in video or in photos too. I’m just saying it’s worth a shot.

But anyway, this case makes no sense.

But here is also the OP’s original post from 16-Feb-2012:

Wow, he really got married and had children quickly - and they grew up to teenagers in record time.
I think he explained in the other “I think my house is haunted” thread that this is his son’s account, and he is just using his son’s account to make this thread (since he doesn’t have an account of his own), and didn’t realize that this would be such a problem as it has been.

Well, since someone brough up the other thread in Spirituality, I’ll post here what I posted there.

The OP should get the locks changed on his house and closely control the keys. It is entirely possible that a friend or acquaintance of one of his kids has a key to his house and been entering and moving things around. As far as the two year old goes, kids are incredibly observant even at that age and it is quite possible they are exercising their imagination based on the conversations they’ve been hearing around them on the subject.

My wife and I sleep right next to the living room, and my wife is a very light sleeper, so no one could have been in the living room without us hearing. . . . . . My husband and I thought at first that one of our older children had done it as a misguided joke . . . . .
So you are in a polyamorous marriage??? 😉

(Sorry, couldn’t resist. I assume that you and your wife composed this post jointly, and missed an edit. No worries.)

All joking aside, I would call a priest and ask him to come and bless the house, at least as a first step. If that has no effect, then see if there are any further steps that the priest can take. If your local priest is not helpful, then you can call your diocese and ask if there is a priest who handles exorcisms and other occult phenomena. (This is not actually a situation for an exorcism, but a priest who does exorcisms may have more expertise in what to do about your problem.)

Also, another poster gave good advice about making sure that your kids are not dabbling in any occult practices, such as using an Ouija board.

Yeah, i picked up on the wife/husband fax paus as well.

I would expect children to grow up that quickly in the movies or maybe a mini series but not in real life and I remember his original post where it is obvious that he is a teenager…

I used to do a lot of reading on the subject of the supernatural. I was looking for an explanation on something I saw as a kid. I saw something standing on the roof of the house next door. It wouldn’t say anything to me just stared and when I ran to get my dad of course if was gone. From what I’ve read I don’t believe in ghosts as defined by movies and hollywood or popular culture. God was very clear with Saul when he tried to bring back one of the prophets…bringing folks back is not allowed. I’ve come to believe over the years that what we might think of as a ghost is actually a demon in disguise and not to be messed with. I also think kids are especially attuned to the spiritual world. I can’t say what’s going on in your house. I would definitely have it blessed and put up some crosses and holy medals around. It won’t hurt anything and it something bad is hanging around it might decide it doesn’t like the new decor and leave. You also don’t want to acknowledge it if you can do that. I believe acknowledge it would give it power which is something you don’t want to do if there is something there. Also discourage you child from asknowledging it too. Sometimes kids can be used by spirits as a sort of connector to our world. For the record I believe my house has something of the same sort of thing going on. Too many really weird things have occured. The priest that came to bless my houe for instance ran into my car he didn’t need to there was plenty of room in the driveway. I came home one day to find all my kitchen shelves had collapsed, I also had my alarm go off for no reason several times. Things called down a bit after I place St. Benedict medals all over the house alonge with religious pictures and St.Joseph Statues. More stuff happened but it’s too long a story to go into. Maybe someday I’ll write a book. Prayer also helps.

This is not entirely true, but it’s a good start.

However I would like to point out something I was told, remember that satan and the demons can be very legalistic. If you tell them to “Be gone in Jesus’ name” they could easily ignore you, why? Because there are many people named Jesus, and the evil spirits have good reason to ignore them, see how tricky they are?

You have to be specific and say “In the name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” Just what I was told anyway. I don’t mean to take anything away from the Holy Name of Jesus, it has great power, just for reasons of telling bad spirits to be gone. God bless.
According to some recent study of some sort, only 1 out of 10 exorcisms performed actually work. Thats why priests in Mexico are taking an “intensive course” in exorcism apparently.

So my point is, if even trained priests are highly unsuccessful at ridding demonic presences, how is a mere lay person capable of banishing a demon who wishes to impose its will by simply uttering a few words?

I’ m still wondering why the op would glue gnomes to the furniture. 🤷

I understood it to mean that whoever moved the gnomes glued them into their new locations.

Hence why I tend to believe that one of his children’s friends or acquaintances or other third party has a key to the house and may have entered and moved things around.

I am trying for the SECOND time with a response. I had been signed in. My computer went bananas while I was typing, and then I was told I wasn’t signed in. Seems like every time I try to do anything my computer gets a mind of its own. (I lost the other message.)

My daughter and her friends told me they had been playing a game that has been around a long time. You get in front of a mirror, twirl around in a circle, and keep saying “Mary Worth” three times. She is supposed to appear in the mirror. If she likes you, she will tell you your future husband. If she doesn’t like you, she’ll scratch your eyes out or something.

**One night my daughter saw an apparition of a woman in a long black dress. In the middle of the night, she woke up and saw this Morticia Adams type of figure, and it scared the living daylights out of her. **My daughter then brought her slumber bag and went to sleep on the floor by me. I had to bless the room and put holy pictures around before she would sleep there again.
This is a symptom of sleep paralysis.

Bingo. OP, if this stuff is going on, then your teens and/or their friends are messing with you and having a field day. Not sure why you have a bunch of garden gnomes in the house, but sneaking in and gluing them in different places sounds just like a teen prank–same with making the blocks spell out foul words.

My wife and I collect miniature Garden gnomes and have them at various spots throughout the house. My family and I left for vacation, and when we retuned the gnomes had all completely changed places. My wife was last to leave the house and first to enter it when we got back. Some of the gnomes have been glued into place in their new position. At first we were freaked out and thought someone had broken in, but nothing was stolen and there were no signs of forced entry.

Two days later, the story became stranger. In our living room, we have several toy blocks with letters on them arranged on our shelf. My wife and I sleep right next to the living room, and my wife is a very light sleeper, so no one could have been in the living room without us hearing. However one morning we walked into the living room, and the blocks had been rearranged into two profane words (fg and dck). My husband and I thought at first that one of our older children had done it as a misguided joke, but after seeing their reactions it was apparent that none of them had done it. However that was not the end.

The next morning, by two year old son ran into my room (before my wife and I got up) and said “mommy there’s a man making strange noises in the kitchen.” My wife and I ran into the kitchen but found no one. Our son repeated the sentence two more times, and then pointed onto the back porch and said “there’s the man.” However there was no one there. The child can give a very vivid description of the man, and reproduce a strange grunting sound that the man supposedly made. Additionally, the family dog has begun behaving very strangely, and often refuses to go into particular rooms of the house, and on occasion attempts to climb into my bed at night. He had never done this before the past two weeks.

One day ago, my wife and I were not at home, and my 15 and 13 year old sons were at home with our two year old. My 15 year old was in his room when he heard a deep male voice coming from the opposite room. He immediately ran downstairs to his siblings and locked them in our bedroom before (stupidly) returning upstairs to look for the intruder. He heard more voices, but could not find anyone physically present.

Is this even possible that a house can be haunted? Should I call a priest? Or move? Or what? My family is all very visibly shaken.
“Experts on the various fungi that feed on the pages and on the covers of books are increasingly convinced that you can get high–or at least a little wacky–by sniffing old books. Fungus on books, they say, is a likely source of hallucinogenic spores.” … “Rossol said it would take a fairly concentrated exposure over a considerable period of time for someone to breathe in enough of the spores of hallucinogenic fungus to seriously affect behavior. There are no studies to tell how much or how long before strange behavior takes hold.”
