The original post seems to have driven some people wild. I think that he has some good points and that some people are being unfair. The ways some people react however are very enlightening.

The OP heavily implied that the only thing keeping him from wanting to see people executed for wearing bikinis and anything else he considers sinful is that the Church is against capital punishment.

He wants to see the world return to a tribal model of society; he wants us to forsake technology; he even admits to a very few of the horrible downsides to such an action, and still calls for it – why? So he can have his way! Just coincidentally, in such a society, he could be judge, jury, and executioner all by himself!

And he has the gall to call his uncle ‘confused’ and a ‘heretic’, while posting all kinds of utterly sociopathic nonsense!

Good luck with the uncle; a too-large percentage of people I encounter (and even some I’m related to) are out-and-out atheists, and I feel like I ought to be able to lead them back home.

Or at least that I ought to try. But I’m not sure how.

I don’t agree with several of the things he said, but it is surprising to see some people become rather hysterical. I presume that he is speaking of such things as adultery rather than wearing a bikini as the sort of great offense that he is talking about. It is lucky we have the Church, which both acts to restrict capital punishment and calls for modesty in dress and in other ways.

Here’s what he said: *I maintain that dressing (or acting) like a whore can only lead to sin, and its not fair (nor right) to confuse people.

Now, I don’t belive in killing people for such things. The current Church is against the practice of capital punishment, and so am I. So long as She is.*

It’s the bikinis.

If the Church is the only thing keeping people like the OP from becoming a law and hangmen unto themselves, something’s not right. Doesn’t the Church believe that morality is innate, ‘graven upon the human heart’? Why should the Church’s stance on capital punishment be the only thing keeping any Catholic from calling for the execution of those guilty immodesty and other ‘trivial’ sins?

The OP’s even wrong in saying the Church is against capital punishment. Its documents say it should be used very rarely or not at all, since we now can keep people rom commiting more crimes. That las bit, however, is based on criminological facts, and the Pope is not a criminologist. The death penalty remains intrinsically licit in certain circumstances, and it is up to prudential judgment to determine if those circumstances exist or no.

That to one side, nobody should be executed for wearing a bikini or other immodesty, because immodesty doesn’t warrant death–it is not one of those circumstances in which the death penalty is licit.

OKAY! For the last time, and then this thread fades into obscurity, as it should have LONG ago.

I (don’t think) I said that the wearers of bikinis should be executed. I never said they should. The fact that the blurb about capital punishmet came AFTER it is simply a result of my poor writing skills and typing what I remembered as it came to me. Captial punishment had NOTHING to do with it, okay?

And to the chap who pointed out that it isn’t strictly prohibited, that’s all well and good. I myself was merely trying to illustrate that child molesters, rapists, and other such scum should be executed, we still pay to keep them imprisoned, in accordance to not being too trigger-happy.

So there, I never said that any of you fine ladies with questionable taste in swimwear SHOULD be in any way chastised, scolded, or punished. I simply said it wasn’t a good idea, (leads to sin)

And you will notice, I never said that I, nor anyone else would be the judge, nay, I specifically said the LORD GOD would be! A real theocracy, not some ecclesiarchy (oh goodness, that must be spelled wrong) which, though the next best thing, sadly is still having humans in charge. An to the allegations of my supposed sociopathy, I much prefer to think of it as a healthy dose of misanthropy.

And the head bang smilie is much more “whacky”.
