I’m at my whits end. I think I just may need to vent. Too much going on, and I feel like my head is going to explode.

My husband and I are in the process of trying to get a house and a car. You’d think I’d be on cloud 9, getting our first home and getting a car after not having one for 4 years. The truth is I lay awake at night absolutely terrified. I worry about how we are going to afford it ad what if we can’t and end up like one of those couples that fights continuously. I also worry that he’ll ruin this car like he did the other one by loading it to the max with camping gear and taking it up into the woods. I worry what if we don’t get approved and then we are stuck in this crummy apartment that we have been in for the last 3.5 years with a kitchen sink that backs up and nasty carpets that bother my allergies. Then the rent is climbing up in September to 775.00 and this place is definitely not worth it.

Then there’s the drama that we have had with my husband’s Father and Stepmother. I’m sure many of you remember the very first post I made on here about that. Things have gotten much worse. Not only will his Stepmother have nothing to do with me she is also mad at my husband. She deleted and blocked him from facebook. She sent him a text saying that she had the locks on the doors changed and that he could throw his keys away. This came after she learned that my husband only wanted himself, his sister, and his Dad to be together for lunch on Father’s day. My husband now feels like he can no longer visit his childhood home and he never hears from his Dad anymore after his Dad used to contact him every day. We constantly worry about my husband’s sister who is the same age as me (27) and still lives there(she’s trying to save money to get out) because she doesn’t handle stress well and my FIL has his share of issues with his wife and I guess they argue often and we worry about my husband’s sister’s well being.

Then comes the big one. The thing that’s causing me the most pain. Infertility. My husband and I have been trying off and on since last summer to get pregnant and with no luck. My doctor feels that my uterine wall thickened after having missed periods after going off the pill. I went off the pill in March 2012. Things should be back to normal now. I had a physical done as well as bloodwork. My doctor found nothing wrong with the physical and my bloodwork was normal. I don’t understand why I bleed for up to 13 days at a time and then have nothing for 4 to 5 days and then start spotting every other day. I have even bled after intercourse and it has been very fusturating. I was refered to a gyno but never heard from them. I got the number and I called and the receptionist was very abrasive. She told me that my file said I was only trying to get pregnant and was healthy otherwise. I explained that I bleed for as long as I do have missed work because I get so sick. She then replies that there’s nothing until September and that she’d be in touch then and hung up on me. I called my family physician’s receptionist and told her what happened and that I want the referral canceled and to go to someone else. My Husband also had a sperm count test done and we’re playing the waiting game for that as well. It just doesn’t help when people continuously ask when are you gonna have some kids and when my mom contiuously buys stuff and tells me to hurry up.

I’m so sick and tired of being sick and tired and crying!:(

I’m so sorry that you are going through such a difficult time. Sometimes things can get on top of all of us. When we feel nothing is going right. I handle these times by compartmentalising, praying and coming up with a plan of attack for each issue.

I’m a planner and stick to a plan religiously. Believe me you will sleep better at night.

Have you heard about the ‘circle of influence’? Sit down, write down your issues and go through each one and work out which one is an issue that you can control or influence and which ones are not under your control or influence.

Be prepared with a plan to handle the issues which are under your control and let go of the issues which are not under your control, apart from prayer.

Congratulations on buying your first home. You said you are worried about getting your loan approved. Be sure that you have all your paperwork in order and then you will be prepared and have a better chance of approval. Being prepared is under your control.

You know what is required for your loan and sounds like you have it. The approval process once lodged is out of your control. You can only pray on it.

Your husband possibly crashing the car again. This is an issue which is totally out of your influence or control. We can’t control accidents. It is dangerous to allow your mind to dwell on the worst possible scenarios. Focus on things you can control. Sit down with your husband and let him know your concern about this. I don’t think he will have an issue with not overloading the car. Let him know that you feel that you can see the light at the end of the tunnel, that your life together is about to get better and you would appreciate it.

God bless you both.

You can’t be all things to every body. You can’t solve all your family’s problems with you and each other. You worry a lot about your family members. You are both very caring, some people don’t care about their extended family. Pray for them. All families have their sqabbles but when it gets to that stage, you cannot control what they are doing now, blocking contact with you, not calling you and blocking you on Facebook.

Their behaviour is out of your control. You can only control your behaviour. Let them be for a while. Sometimes you need to let people go, let them ponder on the situation. Time apart can work wonders. This is an issue you can put on the back-burner while you focus on settling into your new home and getting pregnant. It’s amazing what the prospect of grandchildren will do to people. Unnecessary stress is not good for the body, it can upset it’s natural balance and you don’t need that when you are preparing to get pregnant.

Put yourself first this one time, be selfish this one time because having a baby, you need to be mentally prepared, mentally at peace with yourself and your relationship with your husband. Everyone else can just get in line. The baby, you and your husband come first at this phase of your life. Your extended family will come around.

Once settled into your new home and god willing pregnant, if they are still not talking, write them a long letter and post it. Let them know how much they mean to you and that you want them to be a part of their grandchildren’s lives.

If you cannot get pregnant, there are other ways of being a parent. Are you open to adoption? There are a lot of children out there looking for loving homes.

Another thing, exercise does wonders for stress. If you walk for half an hour or run for 20 minutes each day or every other day you will feel so much better mentally. It’s great for the health of your body and you sleep better at night.

I am so sorry you are going through all this, life is rough. My first suggestion is if you have not started, PRAY.

It’s not easy buying your first home, oh boy was I scared when I brought my first home, first car and got my first cell phone. My suggestion is to put away the extra money now that would go out for the car payment and house payment. For example, if you pay 600 for rent now and your monthly mortgage is 750 then this month and every month put the extra 150 in your savings account and don’t use it forget it’s there. Do the same for the car.payment. Then when you actually have to pay for these you know you can and will be accustomed to live with in your means after those payments.

As far as your hubby’s family, I have no advice for you but pray that Jesus changes her heart. Maybe he and his dad can have a heart to heart conversation about how she is feeling.

Take your health in your hands, forget the ob that the receptionist was rude. Take with your girlfriends and see who they go to. Get personal rec. my hubby and I tried for over three years to have a baby, went to many ob/gyn and told me that I was completely healthy and we should be able to get pg. I finally went to one that suggested I do a transvaginal u/s and found multiple polyps. I found a good doc to remove them and got pg right away. I was never on the pill soi don’t know how that plays into anything.

Good luck and I will pray for you.

I sympathize with the O.P. In my case, that is precisely why I get stressed out. It’s because I have no control over the situation.
Oh dear, I feel for you, that would be a stressful life considering there are an infinite number of situations each day which we do not have control over.

I recall being depressed and whining to my Priest a couple of years ago about something, can’t remember what. He looked at me for a full 5 seconds without saying anything and I thought ‘uh oh here it comes, the Irish in him’. Then he says: Can’t you see? Can’t you see? No matter how bad your life seems to you, there is always someone who is in a worse situation. I know, cliche right? Then he continues.

You got a roof over your head, some people sleep under a bridge.
You got food to eat, millions are dying from starvation in Africa.
You got a job, millions are unemployed.
You got a loving, supportive network of family and friends. Some people have nobody.
You can practice your faith without fear. Thousands of Catholics in China and the Middle East cannot.
You don’t have an addiction. Millions live miserable existences due to their addictions.
You don’t live in a warzone. Thousands do.

He was giving it to me straight about my ‘First World’ problems. It was the wakeup call I needed.

I went home and typed that list and added to it, it gets longer and longer as time passes by. It puts things into perspective whenever I am tempted to feel sorry for myself. I call it The Blessed List and I have it stuck on our mirror in the bedroom and on our fridge and on my desk at work so I can read it every day. When I get into that psychological headspace, nothing can dent my armour.

I must be thankful for the small things. I am truly blessed by God.

Conversely, there are people who have very little due to events out of their control, like the orphaned AIDS children in South Africa living in a run down shack of an orphanage. I see them on my television, running, playing together, laughing and smiling. Happy. Yet they have so little.

She has not even seen a ob/gyn yet, lets not scare her. There could be a lot of reasons why someone can’t conceive right now but can with a little bit of help…

I was right there with her trying for over three years and if someone told me this at that time, I would start crying.

Well, the OP has thanked me for the advice so not sure what you are on about.

You got a roof over your head
Only because it hasn’t been foreclosed on yet.
You got food to eat, millions are dying from starvation in Africa.
For now.
You got a job
No I don’t. I’ve been out of work since last December
You got a loving, supportive network of family and friends.
My wife and I have a strained marriage. I have no other really close friends.
You can practice your faith without fear.
The least of my problems. And after 55 years of Catholicism I don’t feel that God even knows who I am.
You don’t have an addiction.
I survive on a daily cornucopia of anti-depressants. I cannot function without them.
You don’t live in a warzone.
The society we live in might as well be. Everything is swinging towards the political left and drowning in a sewer immorality. I hate the world I live in.
It was the wakeup call I needed.
Some days I just wish I wouldn’t wake up. 😦

About the house and car stuff–are your savings adequate to deal with unexpected repairs? We just bought our first house and I know it can be tricky not knowing how much everything is going to cost. For several weeks before the closing, we just stopped buying anything except food (that was after we discovered our loan was going to cost us an extra $4,000 US up front). There were fortunately no big surprises after that. I think about $10,000 US is about the minimum that I would want to have on hand as an emergency fund as a homeowner–that would cover two medium-sized house emergencies or maybe one major emergency. I think that would give you a lot of peace of mind. I know that sounds like a lot of money, but it’s not quite enough to do a new roof. If you don’t have that kind of money right now, see if you can start putting away an extra $100 or $200 a month for your emergency fund. If you can’t do that, I think you should not buy a house at this time. Have a look at daveramsey.com. Dave Ramsey is a US personal finance guy and I realize that there are differences in how things work in the US and Australia, but the general principles are helpful and he seems to have a number of Australian callers to his radio show. Here are his famous baby steps:

daveramsey.com/new/baby-steps/

About the OB/GYN–be persistent and get in to see an OB/GYN. As an American, I’m somewhat surprised you haven’t already been seeing one, but I know in other countries that they don’t use specialists as much. Here in the US, the normal thing for women is to do a yearly visit with the OB/GYN and maybe even a pre-conception appointment to talk about pregnancy issues before trying. Definitely keep going until you find an OB/GYN who has your full confidence and is happy to be working with you (that said, I love my OB/GYN but she does have at least one witchy lady among her receptionists).

Well, the OP has thanked me for the advice so not sure what you are on about.
Do you honestly think that I would tell the person that they made me more scared about conceiving? No, I would politely thank them and when I was alone cry thinking that maybe we will never conceive and have to think about other means about being a mom. That statement should be said after all options are exhausted.

Just one other thing…
Yu might start spending some time on the Internet finding out about what might be going on with your cycle. 13 days on and 4 off is not normal.
Having some information will help to give you some power over what is happening to you.
And it will make you a better patient when you do get into the doc.
Do keep being a pest about getting I to a GYN. Your health and your future family are the most important things. Don’t worry about being rude, or complaining.
The squeaky wheel gets the grease!

Yes knowledge is power and I agree with you but the Internet also can scare you silly with everything out there, go to the ob/gyn and see what he/she says.

Trust me I have googled many things that scared me so bad that I have called doctors after hours or weekends, especially things about children. Doctors will tell you that google can be your worst enemy when it comes to medical stuff…

  1. I would suggest maybe buying a house or a car and not trying to do both at once. One loan is a big enough headache, and stress can really contribute to infertility.
2.Have you herd of/tried the GAPS diet? I have seen it be helpful even with serious issues like PCOS. With the modern diet and environment, it is really easy to end up with unbalanced hormones. Exercise is good too, it kept me sane when I had postpartum depression.

I have been on the internet reading things and I am terrified.

I have never heard of the GAPS diet. I will definitely check it out. Thanks.

Stop reading from the Internet, stop googling! Trust me! Go see e ob/gyn and see what they say. Don’t google after what they say either. I have been through this. There are many things it could be, very simple things. I cried so many nights thinking I would never have any children because we had tried for so long and doctor after doctor told me I was fine! Until I found the one that helped me. It was a simple fix, a procedure to remove the polyps from my uterus and I conceived without problems.

Pray, pray, pray! Take your health in your hands and if one doctor doesn’t help you, keep trying until you find the right one.

Don’t be afraid!
