Man, that’s a depressing thought. But, since I don’t know of a way to chance my situation, barring a miracle, it’s probably true.
Re-read Genesis tonight, starting in chapter 11. Consider the story of Abram. The Lord maintained Abram to an old age, until He revealed Abram’s vocation to him. And what a tremendous vocation it was - to be patriarch of the Nation of Israel.

I am sure, in the long years before this revelation, Abram had doubts and uncertanties as well. Abram and Sarah had no children - which meant that he had no lineage. In the ancient world, this was considered a curse.

But the Lord eventually revealed his great plan to Abram - making a great nation of him, after changing his name to Abraham. And He permitted Sarah to have children as well, despite the fact that they were past her childbearing years.

The lesson: be patient while you discern your vocation. The Lord will eventually reveal it. It could be something completely different from what you are experiencing right now. You simply have to be listening for the message when it comes, and have the faith and obedience to follow it.
