I want the benefit of god in my life, but I dont want to commit the narrow and close minded ideology that God brings into my life. Help me.

God cannot possibly be narrow or close minded, nor can he desire that for you. This is like you calling nutritious food garbage, and nutritious drink sewage. You (and all of us) need to be willing to give up your false gods no matter how attractive they seem (they wouldn’t be false gods if they weren’t attractive!).

It seems so many people see Our creator God as some small “butler” there to serve us, making ourselves to be God- a very distorted view. We must see God for who He really is and us as we really are and when we see things correctly the puzzle fits together so perfectly and we are at peace with our Creator. My suggestion is to read on of the gospels(perhaps John) and get to know The Lord first in this way, the rest will make more sense and fit together.
Blessings and my prayers,

Have you told Him that? 🙂 Ask Him to show you how to make sense of what you perceive as the “close-mindedness” that accompanies religious teachings. You might be surprised by what He has to say.

I don’t believe in that god either. My God is much greater and more loving than that.

C.S. Lewis said,
The very purpose of having an open mind is to develop a closed mind.
After all, what good is it to always have an open mind? You never decide anything.

A person who has actually decided to believe something (and, is thus, close-minded) could reopen the belief is new evidence is presented. This Forum fields such questions daily.

Albert Einstein was open-minded when he conceived his thought experiment of a person in an elevator (in which he realized that no scientific test performed inside the elevator could distinguish gravity from acceleration), and later with his clock-tower thought experiment (he was on a train moving away from a clock tower, and wondered what would happen if the train was moving at the speed of light - the clock’s hands would appear to be frozen in time, yet time would pass normally as far as he was concerned). These thoughts led him to the Theory of Relativity (for the sake of brevity, I am consolidating the Special and General Theory).

Einstein then became “close minded.” He would never again consider the idea of a “luminiferous aether,” which (at the time) was the generally accepted idea.

Was Einstein a “bad” scientist for not keeping an “open mind?”

Faith and Reason cannot be enemies of each other.
Your faith cannot locks your reason.
So you can freely think with faith i mean, you must freely think with your faith, because faith to be true, must be like that

Very interesting thought and the only thing I can offer you is prayer. God is present in your life each and every moment of the day and He is there for your now. Spend time time in prayer and meditation while we pray for you.
Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.

Amen.

Oh save me LORD, but not just yet - as I still do not want to have to deal with YOUR truth or guidance.

Just wait until I am about to draw my very last breath and then reach down and save me - I don’t want to live like YOU taught LORD, but just receive what YOU offer.

My mind tells me YOU are a "restraint’ to my earthly pleasure, but my conscience tells me YOU are the answer to my eternal salvation, but I keep “looking backward”, like Lot’s wife when Sodom was burning - I miss the pleasure of my sin, more than the joy of approaching YOU in truth.

Wait a minute LORD, I just realized that by asking for help, I feel better, so thanks, but I will get back to YOU when I think I need another “feel good” effort.

The help you need cannot come over the internet, it is inside you. JESUS say’s, if you seek HIM, you will find HIM, so that if you are truly seeking, then take the action required to obtain true instruction in the faith and teachings of JESUS through the Catholic Church RCIA instruction that is available in every parish. Otherwise, as your original post states, you are not truly seeking HIM or are interested in HIS truth, just your own satisfaction.

This is a good analogy to continue.

People who want to live a healthy life eat healthy foods, like fruits, veggies, and a nice portion of meats, etc. People who diet to try and be healthier aim to not eat junk food and fast food. They need to be open-minded enough to learn which food is good for them and which is not. But when they learn about which are good and which are not, they need to close themselves off from it.

As someone mentioned the C.S. Lewis quote, that the only reason to be open-minded is to become close minded.

The same attitude goes toward following God. You need to be open-minded to learn what is good and what is bad. Then you need to close yourself off [spiritually] from that which is evil. That is how you develop a healthy spiritual life, which can reflect in your attitude in this life. You can’t expect to try to become healthier by just eating junk food, or continuing to eat junk food. Similarly, you can’t follow God and yet still want to do that which is bad. It isn’t being close-minded; it’s called being smart and living right.
