Just so you know , theres no such thing as 'used to be catholic ’ your dad is and will always be catholic. He is just in denial as many fallen catholics are.
Catholics?

Not all Catholics who leave are necesarily in-Denial Catholics…

We make the sign of the cross before and after praying. Also after dipping our right forefinger into the baptismal font before and after mass. The sign of the cross is, in itself a prayer, and there is evidence that the apostles themselves did a variation of this.

I had an experience when I was 14 as well that led me to become Catholic, eventually. Only recently did I learn that my Dad had been going to mass, (without receiving, I hope) when he was in his late teens, although he was never Catholic.

Have you talked with him about this and told him how you feel?

I have watched most of a mass on YouTube and the music is amazing and the readings are thought provoking . I would just love to go to one in person

It doesn’t let me send links so the video is called Sunday catholic mass today daily tv mass December 29th 2019. It also only lets me post a certain amount of replies so I’m gonna ask all the questions that I can now
  1. At a monastery is mass open to the public or is it just for the nuns?
  2. Can you draw rosary beads on paper?
  3. Who are some good saints to read about
  4. Do all Catholics believe in praying to the saints?
  5. Who are the sons of god? Job 2:1
  6. Before Jesus came where did the Christians go after that died?
  7. How long do you stay in purgatory?

Its one of those things that you’ll just have to have a direct (and maybe tough) conversation with your parents about. If they don’t let you then you’ll have to wait until you’re independent. Fortunately, with the advent of the Internet you can do plenty of reading and research on your own. A good place to start with a lot of your questions is with the Catechism of the Catholic Church: Catechism of the Catholic Church For example, to answer your question “Why did Jesus go to hell for three days” the answer from the Catechism can be found here: http://www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/p122a5p1.htm

One thing to keep in mind is that there can be quite a lot of mean and over-the-top anti-Catholic hatred coming from some Protestant circles. The Internet can be especially bad when it comes to this since people will always be nastier when they’re anonymous, so don’t be discouraged if you run into this kind of stuff.

I’ve always viewed rosary beads as a placeholder when saying the rosary so I don’t think it would matter if you do that. Its the prayer and whats in your heart that matters, not the object that you use to keep track of what you’re doing.

There have been hundreds of saints throughout history, so I guess you could pick a period of history you’re interested in and read up on saints from that time. Augustine of Hippo is one of the major ones.

As for the jokes, dealing with that kind of thing is just part of growing up. It’s best to just let it go.

I decided to convert when I was 14 too! I am 17 and my parents won’t let me convert. That is so awesome that you want to convert. First, keep praying for your parents. When you do, do it gently and remember God comes first. Then try talking to them. If you do decide to talk to them, make sure you know your faith. When I told my parents last year, I had to explain a lot to them. You can also watch Mass online, that’s what I do. https://mass-online.org/ is a good site. Do you have any Catholic friends or family who could take you? Is there any way you could go on your own? I will pray for you and you can feel free to message me if you want to talk about anything.

  • At a monastery is mass open to the public or is it just for the nuns? Depends on the individual place, but most usually have a public Mass or option for public participation in a separate space from the nuns (divided by a screen).
  • Can you draw rosary beads on paper? Sure. Or use your fingers.
  • Who are some good saints to read about Check out the website below
  • Do all Catholics believe in praying to the saints? we’re supposed to believe it’s possible and be open to it, but not everyone does it.
Answered a few of your questions above in bold.

For the saints, check out http://catholicsaints.info/

For prayers, try the Laudate app.
