Hello,

I live in Mexico and I want to spread the word here in my neighborhood about God. Yes they all know a God exists but I don’t think they know very much about Him. People here are more traditionalists-they mention God and may go to the church every once in a while and do rosaries but more because its what people/ancestors have done.

I want to spark interest in God again… in Christ, His Church.

I have been thinking it would be nice to show movies, videos about conferences and concerts all about Jesus and the Catholic faith at my local church. (I have yet to speak to the priest… and ask for permission/his ideas… or thoughts) Another idea, is to show catholic/christian movies in my neighborhood (I have a room across the street from my house I could put my tv in and watch christian movies on netflix)

A few of my obstacles:

My local church is very poor, there aren’t funds to buy a projector, or movies. (no wifi there)
Netflix has Catholic movies but only available on DVD rental. (I am using my sister’s account on Netflix and she is subscribed in the US-can’t get the DVDs here)
I have two small children that make it difficult to coordinate things…
My husband who isnt Catholic might not be VERY supportive.

I just can’t shake this feeling/desire to share the little bit that I know or have seen or heard about the love God has for us, what Jesus did for us and the beauty of our Catholic Church. I am just kind of stuck on how…

Any ideas are truly welcome.

I wanted to show movies like For Greater Glory and I think its called the Greatest Miracle?
Also, videos from catholic retreats/conferences
Concerts and testimonies…

Also, to attract the younger crowd, at least show movies that dont have sinful content… like October Baby… but I cant think of others… Any movies on Netflix that would be okay for this purpose?

Kids/teenagers here cant afford to go to the movies… which is why I want to show some movies here… while I have internet at home (my husband is struggling at work)

I appreciate any words of advice, ideas, suggestions, encouragement or prayers!

I think you have great ideas already! Wow! I hope you will pursue this and God will bless your efforts abundantly. You sound called for this mission in my opinion.

May your obstacles not stand in the way of your hope to evangelize.
Mary.

I do YouTube videos:

I was a catechist and taught apologetics in a youth group. Those are some ideas I can come up with.

I’ve been to Mexico, and trust me, if there’s anything they need there is apologetics. Protestants are growing there a lot because they take advantage of the ignorant Catholics (which are 99%) and with a few bible verses they turn them protestant. Or at least that’s what I saw when I was there.

Yes they do need apologetics!! 🙂

Approach your pastor and ask if you can use the facility and if he will support you in teaching. I think he’ll likely jump at the offer. Attend as many online courses in catechesis as you can, and build your capabilities to teach. Maybe check with the Diocese for resources you could borrow. You can always get guest speakers if he will ask some of his fellow priests to come and give a talk as well.
Good luck!

It sounds as if the Holy Spirit is moving you. 🙂

A prayer session every so often along the way with people may bring extra blessings to your plans.

I think start off simple, nothing too complicated, and let God send the rain to make the seeds grow.

God bless.

Thank you everyone 🙂
I will keep thinking of ideas and pray about it, and when my husband’s job resolves, I will go speak to the priest. 😃

Ditto PianistClare. I would not worry about technology and money. Instead train yourself to offer personal witness, both one-on-one as the occasion arises, and also in scheduled group settings. You might start by being a catechist to kids, you can jump right in. You’ll learn a lot by teaching children, and will be able to eventually extend your teaching skills into adult settings.

I think you have some great ideas. Have you considered having a small group Bible study or maybe a study of the CCC? Is there a volunteer project you can organize to show Christ’s love to the less fortunate (feeding the hungry, doing some chores for the elderly, etc)?

Don’t discount your own everyday life as a tool of evangelism. Live your life as a joyful, enthusiastic Catholic to be a model for others. Even just participating in mass can be evangelistic. What I’ve noticed at mass in my neighborhood is that the pews are full, but they are full of people who look bored to death, are texting, don’t sing, don’t respond, don’t do anything. A few months ago, the woman sitting next to me at mass sang all the hymns and responses, said “Amen” enthusiastically to proclaim her agreement, said the creed as if she meant every word, etc. At the end of mass, I turned to her and thanked her for participating. I told her she was the first person I had heard do that and thanked her for being a witness and an example for me, a Catholic enquirer.

I would like to take my share of disbelief too. It is bad enough with phones going off but texting?!! :whacky: 😛

I am an account manager for Lighthouse Catholic Media, and I think they are just what you are looking for. Contact them about being an account manager. They have helped me so much. They are in Mexico too, so you can work with others that are as passionate about evangelization as you. 🙂

I would love to look into teaching catechism but with my 2almost three year old… I just can’t right now.

I have yet to speak with the priest since my husband’s job is still not settled. 😦 prayers please.

I do try to participate wholy in the holy mass in part so others can realize the miracle and importance of the Mass…

Yes people text in church.

A year ago, the deacon came up to the front of the church before mass and asked everyone to please behave… He said he had seen last week a couple of teenagers KISSING in the back.

Prayers for my community please.

There are two Popes that I refer to Pope John Paul, and Pope Paul Vl and also St. Paul the
Apostles to the Gentiles. Pope Paul VI condensed the saying of all the others as follows:

The encounter with Jesus Christ will not take place unless the Gospel is proclaimed by witness. Nevertheless this is always insufficient because the finest witness will prove ineffective if not explained and justified and made explicit by the clear unequivocal proclamation of the Lord Jesus Christ by word. There is no evangelization if the Name, teachings, life, promises, the kingdom and the mystery of Jesus, the son of God are not proclaimed.

One very effective way to do this, and it shouldn’t involve money, if it does maybe a little.
is to have a prayer meeting invoking the Holy Spirit in the Name of Jesus to enlighten the group. The reading of the Bible is indispensable. You can even use the Charisms for teaching., there is prophesy, there is the word, there is the witnessing of the Faith. Become familiar with the teaching of the Church concerning Charisms. They are used for the building of the Church, to draw people into the faith. The Latin countries need this Catholic teaching and guidance to be effective. This advice comes from Vatican ll, concerning the lay-apostolate We are endowed by Baptism to exercise the powers of the priesthood, prophetic, and kingly

Sad to find out its only in english, and only in the US. It’s a GREAT organization. Thanks though. 🙂
It’s not only in the U.S. There are chapters in other countries as well. Also much of their tracts are in Spanish. Just contact them and they will help you out.
