Hi all! I want to start making rosaries to give away. I have been thinking of placing them in my adoration chapel so people can take them home. The thing is, I want to make nice rosaries. I think having a beautiful Rosary helps one pray sometimes. If anyone of you has experience making glass or crystal chain rosaries would you be able to give me some tips? For example, where do you get your supplies? Is there a good tutorial online to follow?

At many churches there are Rosary making groups. Our cathedral has such a group and they are willing to help others learn to make rosaries. This particular group makes ones for the military and for those who need them in church. Perhaps there is a group near you that could help. Also, you can go online to find places to buy the beads and other materials. I hope this helps.

@pianistclare is an experienced maker of rosaries.

Also, there are plenty of articles and links on Pinterest or google. You may want to start with some less expensive beads than crystal or glass though, they will get a bit pricey if you are giving them away.

It’s actually really easy to do the type of wire-work needed for a rosary once you’ve done it a few times to get a feel for how to use the tools to bend and wrap the wire. I recommend making 5 or so with cheapo materials before you try to make a really nice one, just so you can develop the manual dexterity and practice your technique for getting the connecting loops closed properly. Once you develop the muscle memory, it’s actually a really soothing activity.

I like Fire Mountain Gems for cheap practice beads. They have really great sales throughout the year, and they also have a selection of more expensive stuff for when you’re ready, too.
