I was baptized and confirmed in the UCC....am I able to receive Roman Catholic Communion?

Hello Everyone! My name is Danny.
When I was young, my parents had gotten me baptized at the United Church of Christ. I have gone there until I was confirmed, and then had found the Catholic Church from going to Catholic School.
No that I am out of high school and going to college, there has been a couple things that I have still thought about…Even though I was baptized AND confirmed in a different church, am I still able to recieve a Catholic Communion? The More that I had thought about it, the more I thought that it would be fine…but I still am not sure.

Am I able to receive a Catholic Communion if I had been baptized and confirmed in the United Church Of Christ?

You must be in full visible communion with the Catholic Church to receive Communion. Therefore, you would have to profess the Catholic faith completely and be properly initiated–at this point, you would have to be confirmed as a Catholic.

How do they baptize in the UCC?

You should talk to your priest about becoming Catholic. The normal way of doing this is going through RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults). Until you are formally received into the Church you should not receive communion.

I have heard of at least one UCC baptism where the Trinity was NOT invoked!

I have also heard of their using “Creator, Redeemer, and Sanctifier.”

Nope, can’t until you are confirmed and become Catholic. Please don’t let that deter you though. I was raised Baptist, but have been attending mass for over a year now and I love comtemplating the Eucharist during communion and anxiously, excitedly, and somewhat patiently sit there and thank God for allowing me to witness such a miracle every week. Its wonderful to know that someday, once I am confirmed, I will be able to partake in the beauty of it all that is the Catholic Church.

The reason why non-Catholics cannot take Communion is because the Catholic Church believes in transubstantiation. Meaning, during consecration the wine and bread becomes the body and blood of Christ. It states this is so very clearly in John chapter 6. Most Protestant denominations believe Communion is symbolic and not real, that is wrong and so if they could take Communion at a Catholic Church they are, IMO, insulting God by partaking in something they neither believe nor understand.

Based on the UCC and how far they have gone off the deep end…(at least here in my town) you may need to have a conditional baptism too…

Keep in mind that not only must you take the proper steps to become a Catholic you must also confess any Mortal Sins that may stain your soul…(contrary to the beliefs of many being a Catholic is not one of the 3 conditions of Mortal sin)
