I was confirmed today in Oakland!

It was amazing! Thank you to Bishop Vigneron and all who worked on the mass. I know a lot of people are not great big fans of our new cathedral. I don’t care! All I can say is that I was confirmed today! The scent of the chrism oil is still on me even though I did end up washing my face when I came home. Must be in my hair or something. I brought a little white cloth to dab off some of the oil in order to preserve the scent by keeping it in a plastic bag. It should last for a little while. The entire mass lasted 2 1/2 hours so I can’t imagine how many people were confirmed. 200? 300? My favorite, most inspiring part of our Bishop’s homily was when he pointed out that we were ready to lay or lives down for the faith. I just thought to myself “Amen, I love you Lord.”

Well I am sure you can tell I am still up in the clouds. Thank you to everyone at Catholic Answers and EWTN. You have no idea how much you were a part of me coming home and being where I am today.

I am happy for you that you confirmed today. I remember that I still smelled the chrism on me for days after I recieved the sacrement. Good luck on your contiuning faith journey.👍

Hey sure! Well, I really want all of them, but I think my heart yearns for reverance and awe. It isn’t like I don’t have that already, but I think in that area I know there is so much more. When I am in adoration so often I am just there thinking “it’s too big, I don’t really get it and I want to”. I pray the words in the part of Tantum Ergo about what the senses fail to fathom, let us grasp through faith’s consent.

I didn’t mention my saint. I chose Catherine of Sienna. She loved the church and called all to faithfulness.

It is God who called you to choose fear of the Lord (“reverance and awe” is a watered down term for fear of the Lord, and unfortunately some parishes are teaching it). May Catherine always pray for you, and may you learn much from her life. 🙂

That must have been something. In our diocese, most adults who are baptized Catholics who missed Confirmation as kids, are confirmed at Penteconst in their own parish by the pastor (they all have been granted the faculty to confirm on Pentecost only without written permission). Adult converts are also confirmed by the pastor when they make their Profession of Faith at different times during the year. I have heard that some bishops reserve the right only for themselves and have some very large numbers of adults to confirm but I have never experienced. Must have been awesome.
 
wow that is great, the Holy Spirit has come upon you with power. Is this the first group he has confirmed in your diocese? what a great occasion.

I’m not sure what you mean by that. I do know that this is the first in our new cathedral and that our older cathedral had been severely damaged in our 1989 earthquake. I don’t know what they had been doing for confirmations in the in between years. Perhaps they had been doing it in the individual parishes but I don’t know.
