Congratulations, and “Many Years” to the newly illumined robdaddyfDue to a little “glitch” during our confirmation ceremony (before our first Eucharist) we were not referred to by the names of our “Confirmation Saints” (some were some weren’t) but were simply confirmed by our first names (i.e. my Saint is/was Josemaria Escriva)…do we therefore NOT have a confirmation Saints? Just curious. It’s a small point in the big picture under the beautiful Catholic sky! Yipee! So glad to be Catholic you have NO idea!!!
Latin Rite Catholics “need not” choose another name either. That is a rather local tradition, one I’d never heard of until I was a catechist in this parish one year. That’s in spite of having been one of three siblings confirmed, having been a confirmation sponsor for my goddaughter and having had 3 children of my own confirmed – 4 different parishes, 4 different dioceses over a span of 30 years.Congratulations, and “Many Years” to the newly illumined robdaddyf
The confirmation is valid, and as far as I can tell the name is the one you chose. It is not a naming ceremony, so as long as you were correctly identified as the candidate that should be sufficient. Your confirmation name will be recorded in the parish records.
You could use it to refer to yourself, but from my experience most Catholics use it like a second middle name and it tends to get buried. When I was confirmed as a Catholic I was told I needed to pick a confirmation name, even though my first name was a Christian one, so my choice was “Peter”.
Interestingly, Orthodox need not chose another name for confirmation if the first name is a Christian name, although one could if one wanted to. The custom is to actually use that name in church.

I downloaded THE WAY and refer to it constantly for meditation due to the simple format and subject matter for each chapter. My confirmation choice was St. Clare and I seldom use it except in my prayers.
