Aside from it being a demonstration of extremely poor manners to post the contents of a private message… isn’t it against the CAF rules?
I believe rules would be violated if Lutheranteach had said, “look at this private message that 1ke sent me…” (if it had been me, which it wasn’t). That would be “outing” a person’s private correspondence.

He did not say who sent it, so I don’t know that it would be wrong to talk about it in the hypothetical.

Except for the signature… It would have been better to perhaps “sum up” the contents rather than copy & paste.

Lutheranteach, I don’t see any issue with you teaching non-religion classes, but like a lot of others on this thread - I think it would be better for a faithful Catholic to teach religion classes. I don’t question your integrity or intent, but know that kids pick-up on things you may not consciously intend to communicate.

Asked by CAF member to quit my teaching job because I’m not Catholic.

I was a bit shocked to receive this as a private message. I took the name off as I don’t think it’s proper to call someone out publicly. But I did want others opinion. If this is a general consensus I’ll consider it. But I’ve not had a complaint from a teacher, student, student’s parent, the parish priest, the principal, or anyone else. Anyway. Here is the message:

I appreciate your honesty & your love of Jesus, but you must not teach at a Catholic School, as you are truly being dishonest & subverting the teachings of the Catholic Church, which is the Church founded by Jesus Christ, which you do not believe in!

If you truly believe in a church founded by a mere man. Luther, then teach at a Lutheran school & sleep well!

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora Pro Nobis Peccatoribus!
No, I don’t think you should quit. If you are teaching according to the approved curriculum, there is no reason for you to quit. If you haven’t had any complaints from teacher, student, parent, preist, principal or anyone else, I’m inclined that you are properly teaching according to the guidelines of the school and you should continue 🙂

My grandson is enrolling today at Central Catholic High School in San Antonio, Texas.
I will be paying most of his tuition. Central Catholic is operated by the Marianists.

If I knew that my grandson was being taught by Protestants he would be transferred quickly to a Public School that has no tuition.

Why would I spend almost $500 a month to send him to a Catholic School? I want him saturated with Catholic tradition and Catholic Faith so he will be prepared to be a Catholic Gentleman.

At the Catholic H.S. in San Antonio you will find the entire staff is Catholic. Why is that important? Like it or not, we who pay the bills demand that our youngsters are influenced by men of our Faith. Do we have that right? We certainly do.

Why are there some Protestant students attending this Catholic school? That is because their parents know the student will be better prepared for college. Almost half of the faculty attended this H.S. so they are who we want as our sons teachers. 🙂

Very good point!

Hi Lutheranteach;: Here’s an outsider’s point of view, as I am neither a Lutheran or a Catholic. If you feel that the people you work with and the parents and children at the school are okay with you, then you should stay. If they aren’t okay with you and that doesn’t bother you, then you should stay as well. If it does bother you and there are other opportunities, personally I would get away from these people, or bear with it until you can find a good position somewhere.

If I found out that my child was being taught Religion Class by someone other than an orthodox Catholic, I would definitely NOT be okay with that.

Then again… with what passes for “Catholicism” nowadays, Lutheranteach could be more suited for the job than any of the “Catholic” teachers… 😦

In our parish, you must be a practicing Catholic to teach in the Parish School, no exceptions…it is on the application. That in effect doesn’t allow comments to be made about teachers of other religions and what they might teach…whether it is good or not…that’s what the policy is.

I’ve heard that from more than one parent

Accidentally in quotes? Can you post anything that is not insulting to someone? Do you do that on purpose?

I saw your rebuttal but I am not going to respond to you. In all Christian love, I have decided to not engage you in discussion.

If the parish priest or the principal don’t have a problem, I don’t see a problem. When I was in Catholic school, I was taught by a teacher who wasn’t Catholic. She didn’t teach us the Catholic faith (we had a sister for that) but there wasn’t a problem. Again, like the poster above, unless you’re teaching the Catholic faith, I don’t see a problem because you don’t need to be Catholic to teach math or science.

And bless you for being a teacher.
True, but Math and Science are not Catholic doctrines, big difference.

Okay, but what happens when a conversation on the papacy occurs? Does the Protestant teacher/Ltheran teacher state their belief on it or what? Say it is not place or time? It is a Catholic school…right?

Luternteach are you Irish i reason i ask teach is irish for house and irish sort of reads back to front. As long as you stay away from religion i would have no problem if ot was my school, but i think even with the best will in the world it would be very hard for anyone to teach religion without letting their own beliefs come true espically for someone as devoted as you

I would say it depends on the circumstances. If it is young children, given an appropriate curriculum, I know I could teach (convincingly, I might add) the Catholic view of the papacy. If it is high school, and the intention is to provide opposing points of view (not a bad idea as preparation for when they are confronted by said opposing points of view as they get older), then within the confines of objectively providing such, that might be the place and time.

uring the last election cycle, I was asked by my kids in the classroom on more than one occasion who I was voting for in the election. They had to ask because I made sure they didn’t know. And when asked, I told them I was not willing to share, primarily because if I disagreed with their parents, it would cause tension between student and teacher. That would be the same response were I teaching in a Catholic school where I was hired to teach Catholic children about Catholicism.
