I went to my first reverent Mass! There is hope!

Of course it was NO as I have never been to a TLM Mass and I am not comparing them. I just suffer every Sunday as I am exposed to abuses every Mass of my Adult Catholic life here in Southern California, until now!

Yet as I have grown up going to the New Mass I never in my Adult life have been to a Mass celebrated in a Church, that seemed like the people believed that Jesus was present and the Mass being done without stupid things going on. *
(I might have gone to one as a kid but I don’t remember)

I live in California so we have had horrible ugly Masses for most of my life, from what I remember.

Now the good news…
There exists some parishes where the Mass is done with reverence and obedience. It was amazing, I could actually open my eyes and participate in the Mass instead of closing my eyes and trying to forget what I am seeing.

There is a Priest in a town in Southern California, who I am not going to name or identify (as I don’t want him hunted down by those wacky liturgists), who offers a reverent Mass.

He celebrates it facing in the same direction as the People and everything is normal. There is no fractioning of the Precious Blood, a great homily, just an all around obedient Mass. They do exist! It just took me years to find it and every time I visit this town I am going to that particular church.

Is there a website which rates parishes in their obedience so once in a while I can have a ray of hope in my life for the existence of a good Mass? I know of one place now in Southern California where a decent Mass is held.

I travel a lot and have been to dozens of churches here in Southern California.

There is hope, then as there is at least one priest willing to try and do a reverent obedient Mass.

*one exception was a Mass held at the National Catholic Family Conference by Father Fessio, but never in a Parish.

Now you just need to make sure to keep your priest(s) right where they are as long as you can!

How do you do that? Everyone’s idea of reverence is different. And obedience to whom? If your answer is Rome, then I’m afraid very few NO Masses are “obedient.” For example, how many have changed their words of consecration to “for many” as Rome requires? The only Masses I would consider “reverent” are (either NO or TLM) Latin Masses and Polish Masses. Yes, even polka Masses, if you can believe that. But that’s only me. 🙂
 
Yes, I know that everyone’s idea of reverent is different, and I understand that to be exactly precise the liturgy would have to be in Latin as there is all that discussion about the crummy Mass translation.

But disregarding all that I am just talking about a Mass that sticks to what the Priest is supposed to do and what should be going on in the Parish.

I have no priest in my parish, (which is an abuse paradise) and I have to drive almost 2 hours to get to this parish but each chance I get I will be sure to go to this nice parish I found.

Bob - it may have been written, but I myself have wondered when a priest may make this change. The rubrics are still the old wording. It’s possible they may have to wait for the new rubrics before they do this - I’m not sure.

On account of the pro multis requirement from the Holy See, I believe it is to go into affect when the Roman Missal Translation is released. I believe the document that asked for it to be translated “for many” gave two years for it to be implemented. I sometimes go to a Mass that follows the letter of the law, and uses Latin, but the priest still says “for all”. I doubt if he would ever be disobedient.
 
I sometimes attend Mass at a Carmelite Chapel which is in a NJ shopping mall. Most of the priests are quite elderly. Although it is a quick Mass (no music) they always say the Mass in the most reverent manner. Even the homilies are good. I love to go there because I can concentrate more on praying rather than on what hymn is coming up (I’m in the choir).
 
I live in So Cal. Wish I knew where this Church is. Our Church is finally having a EMHC meeting to correct abuses. Hopefully they will be corrected.
 
The little church in Guasti (near Ontaro Airport), in addidtion to weekly TLM, has very reverent NO Masses that are SRO on Sundays.
I’ve never attended an irreverent Mass at St. Andrew’s Abbey, Valyermo.
