I went to my first Tridentine Mass!

Just wanted to let you all know. I loved it! The music was reverent and lovely, the sacrifice came alive for me in a way that has not happened at a Novus Ordo mass.
My brother and I will continue to go to that Mass, and hopefully I can bring along my family some times. I will also be writing my Pastor why on heaven and earth they have deprived me of such an amazing liturgy all my 25 years and implore him to offer it there where I am registered. They have my body for church events but that Mass at St. John the Baptist in Costa Mesa, Ca has stolen my spirit.

Oh my goodness I am sooo happy for you 🙂 I went to my first the Sunday after Christmas last year, and I felt the exact same way, that it had stolen my spirit. What a beautiful way to put it! Like the moment you’re done with Mass you’re prepared to do anything for the Church. A lot of TLM’ers will seem crazy to the outside world… how much time they will spend at Mass, how much time they’ll spend driving to Mass, how often they go to confession, etc. Crazy, yes… crazy with love and zeal for the Church 🙂 Some, but not many, Novus Ordos will do that to you, at least all the ones I’ve been to (a lot!).

There`s no doubt about it: “Lex orandi lex credendi”.

im fortunate to be able to get to a Solemn High Mass on Sundays. At the risk of sounding like a parrot: on the third or fourth Sunday there, the thought came into my mind that i could feel the Churchs heartbeat. It was as if an obscuring veil had been torn away.
A similar thing happened yesterday (Sunday in this part of the world). During the “Asperges me…”, there was the thought: “This is the Catholic Church i want to be with!”. Its addictive, though, as youve found out.

Rather than the lowest common denominator, there`s a sort of “Highest Common Denominator”. The peer pressure is pushing us upwards, rather than downwards. Yes? No?

If only i could lasso some of the children at the local “Catholic” primary school, and take them along and expose them to it! Itd be a shocking contrast with the circus Mass that often takes place here on a Friday morning. Had to stop going to it because the smoke curling out of my nostrils made breathing difficult. In any case, smokings not permitted in a church.

Welcome to the Catholic Church and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

I’ve assisted the Extraordinary Form at St. John the Baptist. The Norbertine Fathers who staff the parish are based at St. Michael’s Abbey in Silverado.

You are also fortunate to have a number of Sunday EF opportunities in the Diocese of Orange, CA::
  • St. Mary by the Sea in Huntington Beach.
  • St. Thomas Moore in Irvine.
  • John Paul II Center in Yorba Linda.
  • Mission Chapel in San Juan Capistrano.
 
I felt the same way! I still can’t really understand why they kept this from me for all 15 years of my life until now. I never understood church until now.
 
I discovered the “old” Mass 40 years ago (1970) and have been in agony until just a few years ago, when I found one being offered. Now I’m back in the fight to get one locally.

It’s difficult, I’ve tried to talk to my priest at my local parish to allow a spot for it, but he claims no one wants to hear Latin 🤷 and since I am the only one I guess there really isn’t much I can do.
 
Awesome news! I am glad that the trend continues and that yet another Catholic, upon attending his/her first TLM, has seen it for what it is - the Mass of All Time.

I have yet to attend my first; five separate times I’ve planned to and five times I’ve been shot down. I truly envy (in a good way 😉 ) those Catholics who only need to drive ten or fifteen minutes to get to a TLM. Pray for me that I can finally experience the Mass as it truly ought to be.

Stories like this make me hopeful for the future of the Church 🙂
 
I attended my first TLM this Sunday evening (4pm). The Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Syracuse NY has one. I was also covered for the first time which was very nice. The priest is an older priest (monsignor actually) who was ordained before the OF was instituted. It was a beautiful Mass, though quiet. They didn’t have much music, just and organist and cantor for a intro hymn, recessional hymn, and a song during communion. Anyways next time I go I will sit closer to the front, and make sure my missal isn’t missing 20 pages in the middle :p. This caused me to be lost for much of the mass of the faithful (along with a feisty child).
 
Yes, I am very happy to be able to attend the old rite in an fssp parish in Littleton, CO. I sing in the choir there and the whole thing is very reverent and awesome. There are tons of babies and toddlers there so the future of the Mass is good. If you live in the Denver area you are welcome to visit us in Littleton at Hickory and Powers St. The church is behind the Drinkwine mortuary on Littleton Blvd.

I have tried working with UVWW before. Its not an enhancing experience. They have their TLM and it appears that they have settled with the Abp. Seems to be no more efforts out of them. They have gone “out to lunch”. Unless you have inside knowledge, the rest of us are going it alone.

Do you have a stable group of parishioners who would support another TLM in your diocese? A qualified priest who is willing and available to offer the EF? A location which can be used?

Also, is the existing EF successful? How many in attendance? How far do they travel?

Yes, the Tridentine Mass truly is something majestic, so much so that it really is the only Mass I will attend. To me, this is a what a church service SHOULD be. It matters not that my knowledge of Latin is limited to a few words, but there is just something about it that elevates the soul to a higher state of being.

I’m glad that you enjoyed your first experience. Here’s to many more!
 
Wow I really want to go to a TLM mass. I did find a church that does offer it but it is in a bad part of town and i am afraid to go alone especially being so new to the faith. Maybe i can talk my friend into going with me… Hopefully after RCIA finishes I will have more courage But I cant wait sounds like a great experience
 
I will go to my first Tridentine Mass tomorrow! I can’t wait, I’m so curious, especially since I just became Catholic three weeks ago. 🙂

Just got back and LOVED it! 😃 I can’t wait for next week. I have the privilege of being able to go to a Tridentine Mass every Sunday evening. It is the only one available in the entire federal state I live in. But no wonder, I live in the deepest diaspora. It’s celebrated in a small chapel and is even closer to where I live than my normal parish! I was so moved of being able to go up to the altar, kneel down, and receive communion on the tongue. It was my first time and felt SO right! 🙂

I attended my first TLM yesterday and I am still moved by the experience. Coming up to the altar, kneeling with everyone to receive the Lord - there are no human words fit to describe this.

And you get to go every Sunday? Wonderful! God bless you!

Yes! This is so great, now I can go to the Novus Ordo on Saturday evenings and to the Tridentine Mass on Sunday evenings. I love them both but the experience of receiving Christ kneeling… I always went to the Saturday evening Mass anyway because of my insomnia. Now I’m just thrilled that I can go on two days. 🙂 May God bless you too!
