OK, so my sister was talking w/ me about the Real Presence the other day and she quoted these verses:

"I have eagerly desired to eat this passover w/ you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God."****

Luke 22: 15, 16, 18

" Take this and divide it among you. For I tell you I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes."****

So, her arguement against the Real Presence was that Jesus could not be physically present w/ us in the Eucharist because He said He would not eat it w/ them again until the coming of the kingdom of God.

So, I was just wondering what y’all would say to this…

Thanks and God Bless 🙂

I do not understand the logic here. She apparently thinks the Kingdom of God means only the afterlife of the New Jerusalem, whereas Jesus meant it is as those who are part of the body of Christ the Church as well as the heavenly kingdom after this world. To Luke, the kingdom was with us already:

*Luke 17:20-21 Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is within you.”

Not a problem at all. Jesus spoke those words before he spoke the words of institution which changed the bread and wine into his body and blood. So when he said that, it was still wine.

Who said Jesus is eating and drinking in the Eucharist? We eat and drink, not Jesus.

Ok, first off, The bible verse, DRINK fromt he fruit of the vine, No were does it say eat anything.

Second, He did drink and his glory was manifested. here’s how.

Jesus, had to obey all of the law. EVERY bit of it. He had to have his passover. Which is what the last supper is. There is something else going on here. Jesus was both priest and Sacrifice.

When Jews have their passover meal, they take 4 cups of wine. IF you read the gospels, John and Luke are the best ones as they are more consice. Jesus stops at the 3rd cup, the other disciples have their fourth cup but Jesus stops at the 3rd “i will not drink fromt he fruit of the vine, until the glory of God is manifest”. Jesus then goes to Gethsemane and all the trial and all that. FAST FORWARD, Jesus is hanging on the cross, right before his , In John 19;28…at this point only read John, because John was the only disciple at the crucifixion… Jesus says "I Thirst, and they gave him Wine, or Sour wine, depending on what translation you read. Jesus DRANK WINE, so according to the scriptures, the Last cup was taken right before he died. AT that moment he breathed his last and Jesus died. A bit of Symbolism, Jesus died at the same time, the Lambs in the temple were being Slaughtered, Right before Sabbath. Jesus’s glory is not in heaven, When he acesended that is not his glory, His glory is his Dea.th . God’s Plan, his glory, the moment that all of creation had been yearning for as in the pains of Child birth, was the Dea.th of Jesus. THEN The power and strength of God was when Jesus Rose form the De.ad . Tell your friend to re read the bible and read john, He Drank the last cup.

JUST as a little note, The bible specifically says that Jesus said “FRUIT OF THE VINE” all the Gospels recored some form of Wine being given to him at the crucifixion. So that kind Debunks your friends argument.

Simple. This is NOT an argument against the real presence.

The Eucharist is not about what Jesus consumes. It’s about what He institutes for US to consume.

Have your sister read alittle further in Luke. After the resurrection, they recognized HIM in the breaking of the bread.[Lk 24:30…]
