I wish I had the guts to walk in public in broad daylight praying with a physical rosary like John Paul encouraged

Thank you. There was once a saint or blessed who said that he’d be grateful for a single Hail Mary.

There’s an old chap in my neighbourhood who does his morning walk everyday saying the Rosary. It’s very discreet and probably only Catholics are going to realise what he is holding in his hand. It’s a lovely thing to witness.

I do it. Usally when walking trails in a park but have also prayed it on amtrak trains and in hostels. No ones ever said anything or even given me a 2nd look.

Go ahead and do it. Chancea are no ones even going to notice.

Edit: i use a steel bead rosary frim rugged rosaries. Theres no hiding what im doing. Its blatantly obvious.

I often do it, holding one of those small single decade Rosaries. They fit in your hand and don’t
“swing” when you walk like a full Rosary. There’s a priest who walks (fast–it takes some skill!) with his head in his Breviary every day in my area. I hope and pray he doesn’t get hit by a car.

I guess it depends where you live. If you live some place like London or New York, people will have seen it all before. I remember seeing a guy at Hyde Park Corner with a parrot on his shoulder. Nobody seemed to think it was particularly strange.

Interesting, I’ve never even thought about it. Back when my body let me walk, I prayed rosaries during my evening walk.

Do you live in a country where religious expression is surpressed?

A number of years ago, when it was cold and rainy and I was wearing a coat, I used to do the rosary one-handed in my coat pocket.

I virtually never spoke to anyone because nobody was out in the rain. The only ‘people’ who paid any attention to me were the neighborhood cats (the sweet little fur people) who came up to me for a few pats on the head and a little petting on the back. 🙂

No, it’s a combination of having schizoaffective disorder and of seeing people bash Catholics online. Not to mention I’m the only Catholic at my family and so I’m not in the habit of expressing my Catholicism much.

I will pray for your medical condition.

For the societal things, as long as you are not shouting the prayers to disturb people, no one will notice. If they do, they ask what you are doing, you can say “praying!”

I was going to say, “Just do it,” and pray for the people you see; but if it’s going to aggravate a psychological disorder, then get advice about that first.

I sometimes do it on walks, and at airports when I have a couple hours to go before seating. No one has said anything.

Do not be afraid and do it!

Its the internet. I doubt you can find any category of anything that isnt bashed. Well maybe china, our Hollywood actors seem to love china.

Everybody, I did it… I prayed four decades walking around my neighborhood with my full size rosary. I put it away once I saw my neighbor that we’ve had issues with (complicated), but other than that it was fine.

Do you live in an area where Catholics are persecuted?

In my part of USA there are lots of Catholics and no one pays attention if you say a Rosary while walking, riding on public transport, etc. Except that I have had a couple of Catholics compliment me on my Rosary and ask where I got it.

Assuming you do not live in some region where praying in public causes physical danger, I hope you are soon able to say yours publicly.

I live in a heavily Catholic city. It’s probably my mental illness that makes this so difficult.
