I wish I had the guts to walk in public in broad daylight praying with a physical rosary like John Paul encouraged

Well, you could just hold them in such a way that they aren’t hanging down. You can sort of wind it around the outside of your hand and move along with your fingers by each decade. No one will know what you are doing. I often hold my beads before mass that way and I don’t think it’s obvious to anyone what I am doing even in a place where people would know what it is.

After my heart attack a year ago the wife takes me on what I call our nightly “forced march.” I get two full rosaries in. It keeps me from grumbling.

Mathew 5

When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. “But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.

I do, I am very public about praying for others too. I still pray for courage, I will pray for you 🙏🌹

Praying in public so that one might be seen doing so is different from praying in public to glorify God. Catholics used to have Eucharistic processions and other events on the streets to glorify God–were they wrong?

I was trying to say the same thing, thank you.

I don’t think that me being fearful of praying in public and doing so hesitantly is like praying to be seen…

We do it all the time during the 40 Days for Life praying at our vigil sites.

i posted the Word of God. you decide.
It’s already been decided by the Church that public prayer for witnessing to God and for the glory of God is just fine, as opposed to someone showing off how holy they are, which is not fine.

Your quote is out of place because the OP is not trying to go around praying to show he is holier than others. He is just trying to be comfortable identifying publicly as a Catholic on the street.

Pope John Paul II is a saint and did not go around encouraging people to sin, or violate the Word of God, or any of that.

I hesitate to be that person who brings the corona virus into every topic, but if you’re out walking around now people probably don’t care what you’re doing as long as you stay 6 feet away. I took the kids for a walk this afternoon and a man crossed to the other side of the street to avoid us. All friendly waves, but wide berths.

I’ve not read all the replies, so pardon if this has been covered:

Why are you afraid to do this? Are you in the USA?

Saying a prayer for you now for courage 🙂

Blessings,
