Congratulations Ian!!!

I am also converting. The RCIA classes are really helpful. I found out more about my parish by going to their website. I found all of the RCIA information there. From what I know, different people will say differnt things about converting, so I think it would be best to find your parish, and ask the question you might have to the RCIA instructors. That is what RCIA is there for. Congratualtions!!! Peace be with you.

I also would like to be a Catholic but Catholic church says me to wait for a long time for having babtizm. I am getting cathecizm training for 3 years and I have beeing waiting for my babtizm since that date. But I f you are not a Turk you can have babtizm soon. Unfortunatelly there are a lot of double standats for Turkish people as commonly even in the churchs.

Hi Ian!
My husband and I have been attending Mass weekly for almost a year. We are now in RCIA…

Hang in there! You’ve made the right decision.

I’ll add you in my prayers!

Side Information
  • I am divorced
  • I was not married in a church
  • I am not baptized
  • I do not belong to any other religious organization
Any help you may provide will be greatly appreciated. :tiphat:
  • if you are not baptized, your marrage was a natural and not sacremental, therefore it can be dissolved without any problems. so your marital status is irrelevant.

I went to the book store and bought myself a Catholic Bible. The version I bought was…

Catholic Companion Edition for Adults
-Catholic New American Bible with Revised New Testament and Psalms
-Holy Bible for Bible Study and RCIA

Catholicism for Dummies

Could not find the Catechism. What type of book is this?

Hey there!
The Catechism of the Catholic Church comes in hard or paper back. I’ve got the paper back and it’s been in my car through the summer so I’m taking it to Kinko’s to get it spiral bound!

I come to Catholic Answers a bunch! I’ve bought a few other books of which I haven’t read but I’m just itching to get at them. I’ve been writing down questions my friends ask me about the Catholic Faith. I know the answers in my heart, but I don’t have the Biblical verses down. They understand I’m learning, but I have piqued their interest a little and I will begin my Bible study with this new year. I find it helpful to go to the website and look up tracts. I print them out and will use them when I study to find answers.

Stick with it, Ian. I listen to Catholic Answers on Sirius satellite on my drive home from work. I also get to hear St. Joseph Radio’s “coming home”. We also watch EWTN on DISH. My husband absolutely LOVES Fr. Caropi! He is very strong and he’s “been there”.

I also subscribe to Arkansas Catholic and The Rock. The more you have it around you, the more likely you are to read it and understand. I honestly believe, through experience, the more you begin to understand the history, you begin to realize more and more how right this is.

Also, a little more about my family…my husband and I have been married for 20 years. We had NEVER involved Christ in our lives until the past year. I mean, we both prayed and knew there was something there, but we didn’t fully understand the whole “religious” thing. Since we’ve let Jesus in our lives things have been so very wonderful. Our relationship has blossomed. We have an exchange student living with us who is also Catholic. She’s our little angel. I see her faith as an inspiration. She attends our RCIA classes…she is involved in the youth group…she loves our priest. We love our priest and are very lucky to have him.

OK…that’s enough of my blabbering. I LOVE CATHOLICISM!!! Just in case you didn’t know that!😃

Love in Christ!
M

Ian,

You asked, “Could not find the Catechism. What type of book is this?”

The Catechism, broadly speaking, is the book which outlines and explains the teaching of the Church. This most recent Catechism (there have been others in history) was produced over the course of some years (the Pope entrusted a commission in 1986 to start working on this) and released, I think, in 1994.

Next to your Bible, this is the book you really need to have. It should not be hard to find (especially on-line), and if you have a Catholic book store in your area they ought to have it. It is easily read, and because of the way it is divided, one can pick it up and read a particular section that you might have questions about—so don’t let its size intimidate you. It is really quite beautiful. Ian, be sure to pick up a Catechism!

God bless.

Well I picked my version of the Catechism today since I now knew what I was looking for (Thanks Alyssa). To all I thank you for the support in which you have shown me with pointing me in the right direction and answer any questions I had.

In our RCIA class they provided us with a Catholic Bible, and the Catechism at our first class. As well, during other classes, we were given add’l booklets and handouts to aide in the discussions. I found them all to be very helpful. Even reading the CCC with my spouse (who’s Catholic) was enlightening, he learned things he didn’t even know, so this has been a great learning experience for both of us.
