My husband and I would like to read some books about the EO view of the Theotokos. Any suggestions? Obviously this will be covered in our classes for inquirerers/catechumens, but we would like to read as much as possible. Since we both come from staunchly protestant families, we want to be able to give a clear answer when asked various questions. And any other book suggestions would be greatly appreciated also.

Currently we have;
The orthodox way
The orthodox church
The art of prayer
Philokalia volumes 1-4
The desert fathers-sayings of the early christian monks
For the life of the world
Walking in wonder
Little russian Philokalia 1-2
The evergetinos-volume IV of the second book
Saint Anthony of the desert
The mystical theology of the eastern church
The way of the mystics
At the corner of East and now
The Inner kingdom
The way of the pilgrim

We are still working our way thru all the books above. I would say my husband has read all of the books above except a couple. And admitedly I am still working thru them.

We recently sold all our protestant books to have more funds to buy more orthodox books…it was so cathartic:D

This might have some information on EO. They have a resources on their links.

Thank you, I actually have that link already. I was hoping for suggestions from people I “know” (as much as one can “know” another via the internet). Thank you again for the link, even though I have it already, it is an EXCELLENT link:thumbsup:

Congratulations on your process of conversion to Orthodoxy. May the Lord bless you and your husband. 🙂 I know of three good books on our view of the Theotokos.
  1. Mary: The Untrodden Portal of God.
  2. The Orthodox Veneration of Mary the Birthgiver of God.
3: The Lost Gospel of Mary.

I’m sure there are more books, but those are three that I’ve read and they are really good in explaining the Orthodox position on the doctrine and veneration of the Most Holy Theotokos.

God bless,

Adam

Haven’t had a chance to read it yet but I have heard the new book by Frederica Mathewes-Green The Lost Gospel of Mary is very good.
