so I have not tried making a poll before, I hope this works…
I sometimes feel sure as I am that I am alive today or that I am typing on a keyboard that Christianity is true. Sometimes I feel like, “How the heck do I know anything is true? I have never experianced supernatural events or anything…it’s all second hand info or 7000th hand or whatever. Why would an All Merciful God create us instilling in us all our animal instincts yet demanding we deny them or we will suffer eternal punishment? The only reason I believe in the Lord is because I was raised to, just like a Muslim is 100% sure his faith is the right one or a Hindu or whatever. It’s just history and…blah blah blah.”
Point being, I am wondering how many on this site have ever had doubts about our religion being true?
If anyone would like to expand on their vote, that would be great too…so l’m gonna try and make this poll/post now.

I voted NO, Never. I left the Church for some 30+ years, but never because I didn’t believe what HMC taught or professed. Nor never have I been to any other church. I left because of the way the NO Mass was being implemented. I mean there were something different every week.

I was wrong for leaving, but the abuses still continue, so I decided to return and will continue to fight for correcting the abuses.

I have stuggled with doubts quite a few times in my life, but those doubts never last long. When I do doubt, all I have to do is look around and I see God everywhere!

I did not vote. I have never doubted God, not our Lord Jesus. I have had question over the years as to if Christianity was correct( as a religion not in the acknowledgment of Christ) or if we should be closer to Jewish religious practices. But that a subject for another thread.

I voted Yes, a couple times, for largely the same reasons that oneGODoneCHURCH did not vote. I interpereted such thoughts as doubt. 🤷

When I’m tempted to doubt…

He always snaps me back to reality. None of it makes sense unless Christianity is True and Catholicism is the Truest expression of Christianity.

I think most Christians have moments of doubt, in fact I admit that I’m a little suspicious of those who assert that they have never had a single moment of doubt. It just doesn’t seem intellectually honest to me.

I went through a couple of long periods outside the Church, but happily God has always gently drawn me back.

I have a very hard time seeing how anyone would not have doubts about unconditionally accepting the diverse myriad requirements of the church totally on faith with no means of verification.

I voted “Yes, it is a problem that I wrestle with often.”

I really don’t know how to explain it, so to avoid going on and on and not making any sense, I’ll just say that *knowing *and *feeling *contradict at times and I feel left in the dark.

“Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief.” This seems to be my most common prayer.

Come, Holy Ghost…

I thank God everyday that I have never doubted my faith or His one true Roman Catholic Church. I hope and pray He graces me with this wonderful gift all the days of my life. :gopray2:

I struggle with doubts constantly, not about the Church but about whether or not God even exists. I grew up with no doubts, but things changed and I now have experienced significant doubts. At one point, though I never used the term myself, I would say I was closer to being able to describe myself as agnostic.

Lately things have gotten better, and through the years of doubt I’ve learned a lot. Among other things, I’ve learned how the faith of my childhood was a gift. I did nothing, but had that faith anyway, and it’s because of that faith that I don’t give up now.

And the doubts have served a purpose. I no longer just believe. Even though I still have doubts, I also find much reason to believe. I’ve also grown to know and love the Catholic church more than I did before.

May your doubts ulimately give you a stronger faith.

I agree with this. I have to question someone who says they have never doubted not even in an instance in their life. Even Pope Benedict XVI speaks of doubt as being inherent to our fallen nature(It is in his book Introduction To Christianity). We constantly have a nagging thought in the back of our minds, ‘what if.’ Whether we are Christian or atheist, we have this nagging question in the back of our minds. He even references St. Therese of Liseuix and says she speaks of having the worst temptations of atheism.

I said yes, often in the poll.

I can honestly say I have never doubted. Although that isn’t to say I won’t doubt at some stage in my life. 🤷 Hopefully not, and I pray I won’t, but I can honestly say, so far in my life I haven’t doubted my faith or belief in Jesus.

I said no and pray for perserverance. I know that at times, many people, much holier than I could ever hope to be have had periods or times of doubt, sometimes even on their death bed. (As noted earlier about St. Pio, St. Teresa, etc…)
So, lets pray for one another to,. as St. Paul put it, to “run the race.”.
I was taken to daily Mass from the time of my birth, so, at a very early age I noticed the reading about St. Thomas doubting and the way that Jesus handled him. I use to talk to my parents and others in my family about the Bible, (my aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers and sisters, extended family, the Priests, Nuns, the Sisters that taught me), etc…
I knew that it wasn’t a good idea to be a doubting Thomas and that its not good to try to “test” God. So, whenever I had even an inkling of a doubt starting I would pray a Hail Mary or the St. Michael the Arch-Angel prayer. (my Mother taught me to do that.) I still do. Thankfully, our Lord has always banished any kind of thoughts that began to form before I had time to really think on them. Praise God!!!

Thanks everyone who participatied, I guess most of us doubt at least sometimes.

I have never doubted the truth of Christianity so I answered no. I have experienced doubts within my faith life, but that is different from doubting Christianity’s truth altogether. I hope that made sense.

I was baptised in a fundamental Christian Church when I was 10 years old. I have had many questions about what Christ has had in store for me, but I have never doubted His love for me.

…and thats how the elusive St. Thomas the Apostle icon ended up in my icon corner at home, I pray for more faith almost every day, I am a natural skeptic, I guess…
