something that somewhat complicates things is that i am not and never have been an alcoholic…
am i supposed to put my “light under a bushel basket” when i go to an AA meeting?
at a lot of them, that’s exactly what i felt was expected of me… and i resented it… I am already persecuted in the rest of society… do i have to undergo ths kind of thing @ AA also? that’s why i don’t go anymore…
Distracted, If you are not an alcoholic, why are you concerned about your attendance at AA meetings?

i have gone to 12 step meetings in the past that made me feel worse than b4 i went… Then i have been to some that lifted me up and i felt better than b4 i went… Hate to say it, thoug, but it seems the former is usually the case, not the latter.

since i have gotten more into my Catholic faith, i don’t feel the “need” to go there very often anymore, if at all…

Have you gone to a lot of 12 step meetings?

i wish i could find a Christian one, preferably a Catholic one, but there dont seem to be any within 100 miles… (if there are any Catholic ones at all).

anyway, i feel selfish not going to them anymore because i feel i am supposedto share what the Lord has done in my life iwth others… 😦 but i can’t stand the bad feeling i sometimes get… i know part of it is that many there do NOT want to hear about catholicism… or any kind of christianity…

anyway… just wondering if you can relate to any of this & wht you have done about it…
12 step meetimgs hae provided me with 24 years of sobriety. If you go to a meeting that is negative towrads Catholics or Chirstianity(which I have never run into) find another meeting.

***i have always resented this kind of attitude. ***

***it is Christ & His Church that is my “experience, strength & hope.” i don’t believe any program can keep a person sober if he does not have Jesus… I know that Jesus (the Church) is the only thing that worked for me (emotional additction) ***

***this is wrong because i have a story of victory to share w/ others… i think it is wrong to presume that others there will hate my religion & wnat me to shut up. there are always those who will do that… but not all pepole are like that. some are open-minded… ***
And how many AA 12 step meetings have you attended?

Well, then, the answer should be quite simple. Don’t go to AA meetings. I can’t see where it would do you much good, if you just get resentful and angry. And I can’t see why you are wasting so much time and energy on this, it’s just feeding into your resentment and anger, and those things are rather deadly to one’s spiritual life, aren’t they? So go where you find peace, where you feel you need to be, and let others attend to their own business. You aren’t going to change anyone, just add to your own frustration. That can’t be a good thing.

And remember one thing–talking about Jesus is not nearly as important as acting like Him. Your biggest witness for Him is not your words, it’s how you live.

the program is good for all who have addictions… i am an emoitons-aholic, as it were… but Jesus has healed me quite a bit…

oh please, Jesusgot angry… .when there was soemthing to get angry about… & inthis Satan controlled world, there always is…

and i think He would get angry about pepole not wanting to deal with hearing about Him… and His church… whether @ AA mtgs or wherever…

The 12 step program has been used to help people with many different problems. AA meetings are for people recovering from Alcoholism. CODA (Co-Dependents Anonymous) meetings are for people with codependency.

I will assume that you do not attend closed AA meetings and only attend the open meetings.

I will offer the following: I had a problem with the fact that we did not discuss religion at AA meetings. I see it this way. AA is a spiritual program, not a religious program. There is difference. The way that I see it, religion is something that can be taught, spirituality is something that must be felt. Religion is not related to the program.

Say for instance that I am a dentist. While giving a presentation of my newest procedure, will I talk about how many times that I prayed the rosary while I was developing it? Will I say that Christ guided me during my work? If I did, it would probably be my last presentation to the A.D.A. Why? For, the same reasons that religion is not discussed during AA meetings.

dentistry and spirituality/recovery are two different things… speaking of Jesus being one’s spiritual strenght & hope is not saying anything against the program… it is totally appropriate…

I’m sorry if some pepole who go to Church aren’t “spriitiual” but only religous… that’s their problem…

sorry you seem to assume i have that problem… pepole assume lots of stuff about me here @ CAF thoug… kinda used to it…

  1. I said nothing about you or your problems.

  1. but you assumed things about same
  2. wish i could

Perhaps if you found a support group that specialized in what your addiction is. Obviously AA is not working for you.
i’ve been to some really good AA meetings… open ones… but whne they are good they are very good and whne they are not good, they are horrible… 😃

i just don’t like it when someone says thye don’t want to hear about Jesus… Of cuorse, they say it in a little more polite way than that, but i don’t care how polite they are…

Jesus is the only one who heals anyone… the wisdom the AA promotes is essentially Christian… I realize tehy try to reach all people, even nonChristians & that is one thing i like about them…

but pepole in the group should not … put down Christians… esp when they have the only real “thing” that can help others… long term…
