I converted very recently to Catholicism. I am not confirmed into th Church yet, but when the chance arises I will. I lived my whole life thinking that “once saved, always saved” I thought it was good to think like that. If I fell into sin and turned my back on God, by believeing the way I did, I would still be on the same level and walk through the same doors as St. Paul did. Then I got to thinking, does that philosophy honor our Father? No it does not. If one is Baptised in the Name of the Trinity and believes that Christ blood is the atonement of his sins, he WILL WANT to live for God by doing good works. If you are baptised and have no desire to serve him then is your Faith in God real? or were you just playing the motions. I want to be sure I will enter the Pearly Gates. I want to live my life by doing Good works and truly loving God. I want to invite him everyday to be the Lord of my life. After all, when the final judgement comes, I would rather be SAFE than SORRY!

Praise Be to our Holy Father that by His Jesus Christ’s Death Burial and Resurection we may have eternal life. Thank You Father for your Wonderful gift of Salvation you have given to those who truly have faith in You and accept your atonement for our sins by your death on the cross and thank you for giving us the oppertunity by merely accepting your gift and by Holy Baptism we may have eternal life. Praise be to God and blessed is your mother Mary, our Lady.
 
I suggest you seek a spiritual counselor. You contradicted yourself right at the end of your long post.

Be safe, not sorry and get in touch with someone about this.
 
Let me clarify this for you. I would rather be safe in the Catholic Church then sorry by taking my spiritual life for granted.
 
And God bless you, Ben. There is no safety like the safety of being safely ensconced in the arms of Mother Church. We all know that Jesus Christ founded His Church 2000 years ago. And we know that He founded this Church on Peter the Rock, and promised that the Gates of Hell would not prevail over this Church. And here we are 2000 years later and sure enough right there in Rome where St. Peter died a glorious martyr’s death, where he left the Keys of the Kingdom, we see his successor - Pope Benedict XVI. What more could we ask from God? He keeps His promises, so that we can know the Truth with certainty. So surrender yourself to God, have complete faith in His Word, do everything His Church asks of you, and have complete trust in His mercy…

I’m not sure since Strawberry was not specific, but he may have been refering to this passage in the prayer at the end of your post:

thank you for giving us the oppertunity by merely accepting your gift and by Holy Baptism we may have eternal life. (underline mine)

This sounds a bit like OSAS. I’m sure that is not what you meant by it but it may sound that way to others.

To be fair to Protestants, though, I’ve met many who are sincerely committed to living for Christ, and I used to be one of them.

(BTW, I’m in a similar boat that you are in. I’m ready to become Catholic, myself.)

I would rather be safe in Christ. Christ is my defence and security.

OSAS is absolute nonsense.
 
OSAS is the result of the confusing of being saved with a conversion experience.

The two are NOT the same!
 
God bless you, Linoge, and best of luck! Would that safety were always so clearly available. In the course of my tangled & confused progress (ever more struck by new incoherencies in Protestantism and ever less able to iron out the remaining ones in Catholicism—gads, help).

I don’t mean this despairingly, but as a reminder that there’s a time to be philosophical & resigned should you find you’ve ever thought & fought yourself into a knot: Sometimes safety just isn’t on tap. No matter what stripe of Christian you are, a lot of other Christians are convinced you’re going to Hell for being it. Soldier on, and pray hard.
 
The “I’d rather be safe than sorry so I joined (or keep within the communion) of the Catholic Church” is what I see, and have said many times on these forums, as hedging your bet.

I think it is a poor attitude to have and it’s nothing any Christian of any faith tradition should cultivate.

“I’d rather be safe than sorry” is just a different an expression of the same idea of OSAS. The two sit next to each other as kin, they are not polar opposites.

I can’t seem to find the actual wording but I recall seeing discussed on this site the Catholic views that having assurance in God’s wrath is a sin as well as having an assurance of His mercy. I find the thoughts of “I’d rather be safe than sorry” is having that assurance and as such, really isn’t a Catholic teaching.

I’m glad you are on fire in your faith in Christ as you walk that out in the Catholic tradition, but for folks like me we seek our safety in Christ, not in being part of any particular ecclesial community. And we don’t think of our Christian faith as quid pro quo.

What is OSAS?
 
nevermind,OSAS… Once saved always saved. That is determined by our faith in Him and how we live our lives to prove his salvation
 
What I mean is,If we truly accept his gift of Salvation we will prove that through the rest of our lives by living for him and doing good works in his name and not fall into mortal sin, if we fall into sin we fall out of God’s presence it says that God clearly can not “look upon sin” How can God reside inside a sin filled heart if he can not look at sin? Does he keep his eyes shut? No for he is our guide. We must continuelly ask for fellowship with him again, and ask for him to be our Lord because so many times we cast him aside. Praise be to God my Father. The Euchirist is a great way of doing that 🙂 hint hint:) I can not wait till I am able. I stand by my claim, I would rather be safe than sorry, and I have found that choosing to be safe, God has opened my eyes to many of his glories I have never seen before, and by choosing to be safe, I am choosing to be more like Christ

JRKH saw what I saw in your opening thread. Now you confuse me even more.

I don’t understand what you wrote in this latest post. Can you explain it?

I have even more questions.

How can “we” prove “His” salvation?

Being a good witness of Christ is a given. But, your wording is not clear.
