Iam Worried

Hi

I have started from today the Novena to St Philomena. In this novena it address Philomena as Spouse of Jesus. Iam new to Chirstainity, so was little tensed reading this and was afraid that did I read anything wrong. I read the articles of St Philomena earlier but today after i searched in Net more i read the life History of St Philomena more in details and then understood the real story of her life. Then I realized that the novena was indeed correct and there is nothing wrong saying “Spouse of Jesus” . Right now iam kind of worried that my prayer were little disturbed by the thoughts coming in to mind. Did God forgive me. Iam afriad.

Certainly there’s nothing wrong with using the term ‘spouse of Christ’. As members of His Church, His bride, we are ALL in effect His spouses.

More particularly nuns are often referred to as Brides of Christ.

I’m sure your doubt doesn’t matter - your only desire was to do what was pleasing to Him, I’m sure He’s fine with it.

If you see it in an approved Novena, I believe it is correct, and you should not fear saying these words.

Did you know that nuns - when they take their final vows - become “brides of Christ”? Some orders even have them wear a wedding band.

The term is symbolic - not of a physical but spiritual union with Christ. I’m giving you this without researching but I’m pretty sure I’m right on this issue.

Imagine a little child who is loved by his or her parents. The child is cared for in love and causes her parents to do many things. She throws up on her clthes and messes her pants. She spills her milk and knocks over the vase and breaks it. As she gets a little bigger she realizes that she should try to avoid these things and not make her parents clean up so many messes, but she still makes some. She begins to worry that she will displease her parents who lover her. Do her parents not love her for spilling a glass of milk? What really might upset her parents is that she doubts that they love her or think they would be angry at her for doing things that are not bad at all. You need to be confident that God loves you and your desire to please Him is all it takes to please Him. Trust in God’s love. It is not so fickle that he would stop loving you for wondering about the form of a prayer. He came here and died for you so that He couold take you to heaven to be with Him eternally, only because He loves you.

if any prayer practice is causing you distress or uneasyness, stop at once and take your concern to your priest, inside or outside confession. It is best not to undertake a prayer or devotion, other than the regular public and generally recommended private prayers and devotions, of the Church without spiritual direction. There are all kinds of novenas out there, and without knowing this one, cannot comment. Spend time first on Mass and the sacraments, Scripture reading and meditation, particularly the daily Mass readings, and the commonly accepted prayers–liturgy of the hours, rosary etc. before trying to add or multiply others. When your basic prayer life is in place, then is the time to consider an approved novena or other devotion.
