I will keep my fingers crossed that there will be significant fines and that some Swift executives will do some jail time.

Further I will hope the illegal immigrants who used stolen social security numbers will be forced to pay back all of the monies they were paid while using that SS number as well as get a good part of the 15 year prison term, both of which are the penalty for such an offense.

So far at least we can enjoy the fact that there are a large number of illegals that are out of action and no longer violating the rights of innocent Americans.

The self evident post can only be denied by those of low moral character. You are obsessed why? I agree with Lance that the actions by Swift are good prima-facie evidence that Swift knew they had at least some employees that were illegal immigrants. That is certainly enough for me.

If Swift was innocent there could have been a negotiated, cooperative investigation between ICE and Swift to uncover and eliminate any illegal immigrant employees. Swift chose to make it adversarial.

Of course not. Not even close.

The Catholic Church I believe in encourages the faithful to object to and protest against individuals or groups that violate the rights of and/or cause harm to innocent people.

Illegal immigrants who use stolen social security numbers violate the rights of and cause harm to innocent Americans. I object to that behavior and protest it in this thread.

In that vein I repeat that I will hope the illegal immigrants who used stolen social security numbers will be forced to return all of the monies they were paid while using that SS number as well as serve a good part of the 15 year prison term, both of which are the penalty for such an offense.

And, do to the arrests that occurred at Swift, we can thankful for the fact that there are a large number of illegals that are out of action and no longer violating the rights of innocent Americans.

Of course all people have rights, even the lawbreakers.

I read an article about a Tyson’s Chicken plant in Georgia recently that was having trouble getting employees after a raid.

In another piece on the same thing, the reporter was interviewing a couple of women who had gone to work there. They both intended to quit as soon as they got new jobs because the work was so hard and disgusting.

I have never been in the Tyson’s plant you are talking about, but I have been in several Tyson plants in Missouri and Arkansas, and very few jobs there are hard work and the only job I saw that could be described as “disgusting” is the work called “live dock”, because of the smell of chicken feces when the trucks bring the chickens in. The process is intensely mechanized. After “live dock”, by the time a human being touches a chicken again, it is in about the condition of a whole chicken you buy at the meat counter in the store. The “live dock” work is physically hard and the job called “stack off” (lifting tubs weighing up to 70 lb) is physically hard. Nothing else is, if you are a well person. I have done it myself. Lots of people in lots of jobs complain about lots of things, but it doesn’t mean the complaints reflect reality.

Employee screening isn’t so easy. If a prospective employee produces ID that appears valid on its face, by law you cannot look behind it other than checking whether the SS number is real and matches the name. If you insist on further investigation, you will be violating civil rights laws. You can be fined for that and will almost certainly get sued. False ID makers are very good at their trade, and they are everywhere. It is impossible to tell whether some of those IDs are phony or real. Some employers actually invite the INS in to look over their employee roster and IDs. INS can’t tell the difference for many of them either. Lots of employers deliberately hire illegals, but most don’t and hate the whole ordeal.

thank you for pointing this out. I have worked in HR. Even if you question an ID you can not do anything about it plus you don’t have to suuply a SS#. There are many forms of ID that work.

“The internal revenue code really does not differentiate between legal or illegal status,” said IRS representative Patricia Kirk.

thank you for pointing this out. I have worked in HR. Even if you question an ID you can not do anything about it plus you don’t have to suuply a SS#. There are many forms of ID that work.

I kow the reason given is privacy concerns-BUT the REAL reason is that illegal Aliens have taxes withhheld from their checks that they are never going to get back. Congress does not want to do anything that would jeapordize those funds.
