I have just been to my first TLM.
I have heard incredible things about them and I have heard awful things about them

I absolutely loved it.

The Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest took over a gorgeous church that had been closed down in Wirral, Northern England, about half an hour’s drive away from where I live.
There were about 100 people at mass. Good mix of ages.

The priest was French, Canon Olivier Meney. He was awesome. His Latin singing was beautiful and his homily was, well, a homily. I’m not used to homilies. I’m used to 10 minutes of irrelevant garbage not a 20 minute homily that actually talks about the faith and challenges us.

I was looking in their newsletter (which I have next to me) and I notice they have free, weekly Latin classes. Brilliant.

I also notice they have something called ‘St Francis de Sales classes’.
What are they?
 
They are a kind of priestly society authorized by the Holy Father, whose mission is largely about preserving the traditional Latin Mass.

The only criticism I’ve ever heard of them is that they don’t have enough chapels yet.

And let me say, I thank God that you’ve discovered “the most beautiful thing this side of Heaven!”

I too live near the church & have been attending since January.

Canon Meney is fabulous as is the set up there in general. With regards to the St Francis de Sales classes, from what I understand they are aimed at concentrating ones mind & praying appropriately throughout Mass - though I could be wrong.

There is so much going on up there that I encourage you to immerse yourself in it all. We are so lucky to live so close to a Traditional Catholic parish when many have to travel for hours just to attend a TLM.

I was indeed there today. My usual place is/was St Winefride’s just up the road from you in Neston.

Was your visit to New Brighton a one off or do you plan to go again?

It was supposed to be a one-off but who knows now.

I’m quite involved in St Werburgh’s, where I will also get married in a few months. Also, since I returned to the Church my parents have started attending church again (travelling from E Port to St Werburgh’s) and my fiance has converted. We all go to St Werburgh’s (usually) so it’s a nice thing to have my family there (my siblings have also started attending, though infrequently, since I came back). I took an opportunity this week when neither my parents or fiance would be there to go to Sts PPP.
 
The actual initials of this society of apostolic life are ICRSS, which are the Latin initials. 😉

My family are all CofE as was I until a few years ago so I’m relatively free to move attend New Brighton.

Glad it was a positive experience for you though!

(I’ve also seen “Institute of the Supreme Priest of Christ the King”)
 
ICRSS is so close to ICCRS (International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services). 😦
 
I am moved indeed to see this warmth and enthusiasm for the wonderful work of Icksp.

As to the question concerning St Francis de Sales. The classes on the Wirral I believe are group studying that great Saint’s Invitation to the Devout Life.

St Francis de Sales is one of the three patrons of the Institute. (The other two being St Benedict and St Thomas Aquinas).

Icksp however is very deeply attached to the very gentle and loving quality of Salesian spirituality.

St Francis de Sales is a doctor of the Church known as the Doctor of Love …
