Hi everyone! I’ve got a quick question that hopefully someone here can answer.

Can a reproduced and mounted icon (as opposed to a hand written one) be venerated? Also, do any churches put out reproduced icons for veneration?

I was just a little confused by this and I thought this section of the forum would be the place to ask 🙂

Yes, and many do.

how do you venerate icons? by praying infront of them? God bless

**Icons are a devotional tradition that aids one in their spiritual life. Please make sure that any icon you are using in your spiritual life has been written from a trusted eastern or western Catholic source. There are a few places that sell icons that do not follow the sacred tradition of these unique prayer resources.

PM me and I will suggest some authentic icon “writers.”**

A kiss, bow, and sign of the cross are all acceptable, or combinations. The veneration is actually to the saint or Christ, or Trinity, etc., represented in the icon, not the item itself.

That’s what I do, too.

Yes, a reproduced and mounted icon can be venerated. My entire icon corner is made up of only those types of icons right now since money is tight. My local Orthodox Church, for instance, has many printed and mounted icons and they are venerated (in fact, some were prints taken from Orthodox calendars and then mounted on wood). While it is great to have an icon written for you, it is expensive, and prints are great options for those with tighter budgets. My local Orthodox monastery even sells them at their bookstore (in addition to high-quality hand-written icons).
