Hello all,
I am a representational painter and have always been interested in the great figurative art of the past produced by the Catholic Church. Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Bernini, Rubens, etc etc are all huge inspirations for me.
I’ve been thinking of giving my hand a try at some more Sacred subject matter for awhile now. I’m thinking of doing a painting of St Michael the Archangel slaying the dragon. It’s a subject matter done many times, but I thought that it’s fitting for our time. Pope Francis also recently consecrated the Vatican to St Michael, too.
I’m wondering if there are any websites which have a lot of iconography throughout art history on them? I’m looking for as many different depictions of Angels, Saints, Jesus, etc throughout art history as possible.
