Recently I have had a little more interest in religious icons, especially the more affordable prints. While searching ebay, I came across an icon of the Virgin Mary holding Jesus, who is holding a round disc. Does anyone have any idea of what the circular disc represents? Also the spooky looking faces in the top corners of the icon? This is from an icon workshop in Greece where they create Orthodox Byzantine icons. ebay.com/itm/VIRGIN-MARY-Orthodox-icon-on-wood-handmade-22-5cm-x-17cm/271562923869?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D24191%26meid%3D8682000959231542078%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D10283%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D281398724400
While the above seems to come from a good source, I did come across a WARNING about “Monastery Icons” by Fr. Anthony Nelson, a priest in the Orthodox Church, saying that their icons have a veneer of Orthodoxy but in fact they are associated with Hinduism and they are spiritually dangerous. This is turning out to be more confusing than I thought, not understanding all of the writing other than a few symbols for Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ and other symbols, I really don’t know what I would be getting.
