I’m sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but I need some help Identifying this painting of Mary. Who is it by? Where can I buy a copy?

Thanks!
Thank you and God bless you for posting this beautiful Icon of Our Blessed Mother.
A detail of an 18th century copy of the icon of the Salus Populi Romani (Protectress of the Roman People). The original painting is kept in the archbasilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome. The image has since long been considered a true portrait of Mary, as according to legend it was painted by St Luke.
The details of the print are listed through a comment (at least I think it is a comment) from the website you provided

You can also check out The Papal Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore:

You could probably ask your Parish or check out a Catholic outlet store. However, someone with more knowledge of this Icon can help you out better than me.

This website may have a digital copy of it you can purchase and download royalty free. Then you can have it printed at whatever size you would like. They have dozens of restored pieces of Catholic artwork, it is amazing!

:bigyikes:

There is no painting from St. Luke’s age that has anywhere near the technical expertise of this painting. Such techniques were not developed until over a thousand years later.

This isn’t the exact painting from St. Luke. This piece of art is based on an icon painted by St. Luke. I do agree that it’s quite beautiful! 👍

The painting looks similar to – but not identical to – the icon from St. Mary Major:

Yes, I do agree with you that it does look similar but not identical to the Icon in Rome. However, the person who left the comment on pinterest stated that he/she said it is a copy.

To the OP, are you able to contact the person who posted this image of Our Blessed Mother on pinterest?

I don’t know why but the copy of the Icon reminds me of an image from the cover book, “The Testament of Mary” by: Colm Toibin
