Has anyone watched Ida? I was thinking of giving it a try.

The movie website is odd. You must click the little black square in the upper right to enter.

I’ve seen about 3/4 of it. Guess I forgot to finish the rest. 🤷 It’s alright.

lol…not encouraging.
Ida isn’t bad but for me was quite slow and I had trouble getting into it; I think I’ve watched about 1/4 of it at a time. If you’re into these sorts of dramas then you may like it. It’s not anti-Catholic or anything, mind you I’m not sure how it ends but I’ll finish it eventually. It’s in black and white and well done anyways.

There is another independant film I preferred called Into Temptation, though it deals with a darker subject matter. I thought the one priest friend of the protagonist (also a priest) was over the top though and said things that a priest would never say. Same could be said of the protagonist. Still this movie was more watchable for me even if the premise of it is flawed in a way, but I needn’t say more (spoilers :p).

I also enjoyed Padre Pio: Miracle Man.

Finally got around to watching it.
It is very sensitive and beautifully written and produced.

I also suggest the TV movie Pope Pius XII in which James Cromwell plays the pope. Don’t settle for the Italian version… there’s an English one out there too.

What is it about???.
A novice in a convent whose superior forced her to meet her aunt before being allowed to take her final vows. Her aunt informed her that she was born Jewish and that her parents were killed in the war. The aunt was unable or unwilling to take her on which is why she ended up in a Catholic convent. I’ll say no more and let you watch it if you wish.

Oh ok sounds interesting, thanks.

I also watched it and would like to see it again as I had some distractions the first time I watched it. I believe I watched it before the Academy Awards because I had read a review of it. I have seen other foreign films I liked better. It was worth watching although a little slow.

I saw the movie. It was ok, but not great. It is all black and white, which is fine for the cinematography. I questioned the believability of a few things in the movie, especially since I am somewhat familiar with Polish culture. I would instead recommend a Polish movie that was made in 2011 called In Darkness, which is based on a true story.
