Localized parochialism is becoming transnational with the rise of technology. Extremist Islamism, as opposed to religious Islam, is an example. Democracy and traditional religious institutions of the Old mentality with a capital “O” are clueless.

What is the Catholic Church doing to counter this movement? Is it simply a moribund and traditional institution which cannot react due to its disconnection from the social movements of today?

I believe that it is due to:
  1. Complacency. Power and wealth provide comfort and ignorance.
  2. Political correctness - We have a hesitation to espouse a universality of values.
  3. Political and Economic Failure - Democracy is only one choice among many choices.
  4. Political Resistance - Resistance against contemporary power.
