Hi guys,

A friend of mine is being ordained priest this summer. He is a Latin Catholic but has a huge interest in Russia. He has spent some time in formation in Russia and the Ukraine and is likely to be sent there again at some point in his ministry. He speaks and reads Russian fluently.

Since he lives in a Latin country, he’s likely to get a shed load of ordination presents which most Latin priests get, so I thought it might be nice to get him something which is religious and reflects his interest in Russia. In terms of price, I would probably be willing to spend up to about £100 (150 USD) more or less.

Do any of you have any thoughts as to what might be suitable (and available at 6 weeks’ notice!)?

Thank you in advance for any advice.

You may want to consider an ikon called Christ the High Priest. Here is one version of it…

You can also GOOGLE Christ the High Priest and see what is out there…

There used to be a good Russian gift shop in London that sold many ikons but I can’t remember their address. If I find it, I will post it…

Hope this helps…

An eastern censer with bells.

Hand cross.

Eastern incense from Mount Athos or Holy Transfiguration Monastery

Axios!

A beautiful card with a commitment to pray for him for a period of X years or X rosaries … etc:thumbsup:

If you are considering buying him an Icon, you may want to research the company providing them. Here is an essay on one of the prominent companies which portray an orthodox faith while the writers experience was different.

You may ask him what he would like. He may have a specific item or prefer cash to save for something beyond reach of a single person.

You could give him an icon if he has a huge interest in Eastern Christianity.

If he is going to be a Latin priest, a nice chasuble would also be a good present.

You can find cheap chasubles here. vestments.eu

I would get him a gold chasuble, since gold can replace every liturgical color except purple and black.

An Icon of Melchizedek, King of Salem, good incense, an Icon of Christ the Teacher

Thanks guys. I have found a specialist icon shop in London that has some reasonably priced items, so I’m going to go and have a browse in there. Thanks for the suggestions. 👍

A good, sturdy, oversized garment bag.

Seriously. Dad (a deacon) makes them as ordination presents - and his handiwork is much beloved by the recipients - of upholstery fabric, long enough for vestments.
