Ideas for baptism/confim gift needed

I know this is the place to go for information and ideas, so here I am!

Can anyone suggest a gift idea for an adult who will enter into the Church this Easter? He has been a Baptist (but a non-church-goer) until now and is still learning (as we all are). I thought I’d look for a book for him, but I don’t think he’s much of a reader. I’d like to get something poignant and meaningful–you know, the perfect gift!!

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

How about a Catholic Study Bible, a rosary with instructions on how to pray it, or a prayer book.
 
I’d suggest the book ‘Born Fundamentalist, Born Again Catholic’ by David Currie. It’s easy to read and covers a wide range of topics. 👍
 
I think a really nice Bible is a wonderful gift. And I like the crucifix idea as well.
 
I have seen a beautiful Graphic Bible recently. Although it is aimed at children, it is a real Bible rather than Bible stories but written in a straightforward manner. It is not childish and has some wonderful illustrations. It is similar to a paraphrase Bible but more detailed and accurate with wonderful footnotes (so I’m told).

My cousins were received a few years ago and I can’t remember what we bought them:( . I have been told a Rosary with a book about its origins and practices is usually a popular gift for new Catholics regardless of age as the beads help to symbolise Catholicism as separate from other Christian faiths.

a book on the life of his Patron Saint;
Catholic prayer book;
a Catholic Bible;
Encyclopedia of Saints;
a Crucifix for his Home

if he went through RCIA he probably received a Bible and a Catechism, I suggest a Daily Roman Missal, I wish I could get every parent and confirmation sponsor to get this for their candidates.

Although I would think if you’ve gone through RCIA, you would have one. We got a Bible and a CCC the first class.
 
Hi- my husband converted several years ago. He received a study bible in RCIA, so I got him a special rosary and a statute of St. Michael (his patron). Also, because we had children (who were being raised Catholic and thus had been baptized already) at the time he came into the church, I got him a sterling baptismal cup (engraved with his baptismal date), and a “Baby’s First Christmas” personalized ornament. The last 2 ideas are kind of cutesy, but we have my, and all of our kids’ sterling baptismal cups on a special shelf and I was so excited to have my husband become a Catholic I wasn’t going to leave him out! (Plus, the kids love to look at all the cups- a family unity thing!)

I sponsored someone in RCIA a few years ago and I got them a statue of the Blessed Mother and a pocket prayer book.

A statue or medal of their patron saint is good.

A crucifix, Bible, rosary, picture of the Sacred Heart, or a book on his patron saint, or a book on Pope John Paul II are all good.

When I made my confirmation, I gave my sponsor a statue of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and a statue of the Sacred Heart, but these would be good for the person being confirmed also.
 
This is a great list, I would add:
  • Christian Prayer or other edition of the Liturgy of the Hours–what a great time to begin this prayer!
  • A picture or biography of the patron saint they chose (i.e., “Baptismal name” or “Confirmation name”). His or her devotion to this saint is probably at its strongest now, and this would be an excellent idea.
 
What about getting them a Papal Blessing? We got one for my grandparent’s 50th anniversary, and it is quite beautiful.
 
These are all wonderful ideas. Thanks a lot. I shouldn’t have written ‘baptism gift’ as he is already baptised, but this is an excellent list for gifts for anyone in either or both situations.

I also think a mass offering would be appropriate. Let him know that you are not just privately praying for him, but also publicly! Peace
