Ah, I see that now that I read through it again. It strikes me odd that my previous spiritual practices can color things in such a way. Thank you for sharing what it means to you.
Today was difficult for me. I had intended to go to confession and mass. I fell asleep at the time I should have been getting myself and the children ready to leave. I awoke two and a half hours later with my son calling out. I was fine one moment and in a heavy sleep the next. So, I am now beginning to see this will really be a battle for me to get free of this. It seemed so simple. Get ready and go to confession and mass. No problem. It seems so easy for others. Who would ever believe that something like going to church would be such a challenge?
I am trying not to be discouraged. I posted a request for prayer and will try again tomorrow morning.
In the meantime I am reading through the Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus by Fr John Croiset SJ. I am learning quite a bit and I find that I am seeing Jesus in a way I have never seen Him before. It is comforting and heartbreaking at the same time. I am struck by the necessity of mortification (which I always associated with people who practiced flagellation and other extreme methods) and how mortification could be about about giving up my high end shoe addiction or my chocolate.
I think that, in reading this book, I am falling in love with Jesus more than I am looking for somewhere to run away from unhealthy spirits. I found a point that I had never seen before in the Crucifixion that should have been so obvious to me or anyone and yet was not. Jesus willingly shed His own blood for us, because He loves us, unworthy as we are. Other gods that I have bowed down to sacrificed themselves to something (not to themselves as Jesus did) for wisdom, or for growth of vegetation, or other some such blessings. Only Jesus sacrificed Himself to Himself for us to be spiritually free and that has touched me in a way I cannot express.
@ready, thank you for suggesting this book. It has already changed me and I have not even finished it yet.
