Ideas for what to do during the Pauline Year

Later today during First Vespers for the Feast of Sts Peter and Paul, the Holy Father will proclaim the year from 29th of June 2007 - 29th June 2008 as a year dedicated to St Paul. It is in preparation for the 2000th anniversary of the birth of this great saint.

I have been thinking what does on do during this time? It was easier when we had the Year of the Rosary and the Year of the Eucharist as we could make concrete resolutions.

I am calling on all the CA forum members to collect their ideas here in order to help others to put out into the deep during this great year.

Here are my two ideas that I will follow through on.
  1. To do an in-depth study on the life and person of St Paul in order to get to know him better
  2. To include him in my list of Communion Intercessors.
I would dearly love to know what you intend to do to mark this year.
 

  1. *]Read Paul’s letters and the Acts of the Apostles.
    *]Try to live out what I learn from them.
    *]Pray for the conversion of loved ones through the intercession of Paul, who himself had an extraordinary conversion.
 
During this year let’s ask St. Paul to intercede for us in prayer – that our hearts and minds seek ways to evangelize in earnest – and that we be open to the Holy Spirit’s guidance.
 
We could

1] have the same respect for Eucharist that St. Paul did…the belief that if we partake “un-worthily” we eat and drink to our “death” and develope a hightened sense of the True Presence…

2] become more charitable in support of the Church and those less fortunate, especially those in the Holy Land…St Paul took a collection to help the starving and troubled people of Jerusalem. We are called to support the evangelization of all mankind We are to catechize and evangelize, “holding fast” to the Traditions [whether by word of mouth or by letter]. This takes our time, talent and treasure…
 
I just possibly have the chance to do some overseas travel next year - I think going to some of St Paul’s stomping grounds in Greece and to Rome would be good. Have to work hard and start saving if I want it to happen, though.

Here’s what I plan on doing.

  1. *]Examine my personal strengths in order to overcome my personal weaknesses.
    *]Learn to write and evangelize effectively.
    *]Learn to live his description of love in my marriage.
    *]Learn to not be afraid to be considered “out of touch” for my beliefs.
    *]Pray for the strength of Christianity in all the regions Paul visited.
    *]Pray that all Christians can be in union to the satisfaction of Christ.
    *]Pray for the Christians who are still persecuted.
 
On Catholic Radio this morning, they said that the St. Paul Jubilee year will begin in June 2008 and end in June 2009 - that we have a year tto prepare 🤷

Not to get off topic, but I was thinking about scripture and how I always pull something new from it and this is what I thought of.

During the Transfiguration, Peter’s reaction was strange to me. In the midst of seeing Jesus talking to Moses and Elijah, the idea that came to his mind was that a tent should be built for each one. Peter was a fisherman, not a tentmaker. It would be safe to say that his tent would not really be up to par.

However, Jesus approached a tentmaker (Paul) to help the fisherman (Peter) build the Church and both died in Rome. I don’t know about you, but I thought that was pretty neat.

As a recent convert, I am more or less still in the process of figuring out the what and where and when of what I should be doing. As such, I plan to go on at least 3 week-long retreats and several weekend retreats in the next year. The retreats may or may not include something about St. Paul.
 
Found it on line - we do have a year to make preparations. Next year, I will plan to dedicate the year to working for the Converstion of Souls.

ROME (CNS) – Pope Benedict XVI announced a special jubilee year dedicated to St. Paul, saying the church needs modern Christians who will imitate the apostle’s missionary energy and spirit of sacrifice.

The pope said the Pauline year will run from June 28, 2008, to June 29, 2009, to mark the approximately 2,000th anniversary of the saint’s birth.
 
well i work for lighthouse catholic media, it’s a stand of solid catholic cds and brochures that would go in the back of a parish (or in a school, maybe to be put in gymnasium cafeterias during basketball games, or in catholic bookstores, really anywhere)

Aarghh.
I got the dates wrong! It is indeed from 2008 - 2009. I thought that it was from 2007 - 2008. Ah well. I guess I will have a biennial celebration then. :o
 
I just got this idea from another thread - how about praying and offering sacrifices for those who are being persecuted for their Christian faith as Paul was? :hmmm: There’s certainly a lot of that going on in different parts of the world - China, the Middle East …
