I would just like to get some information (on social justice: stats on hunger, anecdotes, etc.) from the forum members who feel they are on the left of the political spectrum that seem to support their world view. I just felt like hearing the other side to get a complete picture.

thanks

Many on the left refuse choose to ignore the “other” half of the Truth if it makes them feel bad, no matter how true. The Truth will set us free. Lack of real freedom will continue as long as people continue to ignore the truth.

I’m a bit Left economically, but socially I’m very Right. On issues that are neither it just depends. Does this count? I doubt you will find many on the Left on this site.
Much of my ‘leftist’ economics comes from my being from a family that is on the lower end of the economic scale (Obviously, we have enough money to afford the internet as a luxury), but on the whole quite lacking in what many people take for granted (with a bit of the same guilt in the items that those who are below us on the economic ladder cannot have). I view it is the Government’s responsibility to care for its citizens - such as keeping order, allowing and giving the means for each individual the to reach his or her potential (whether the individual follows through or not is up to the individual), to allow ALL individuals the right to live, to protect the impoverished who did not desire their poverty from those who would take advantage of them (meaning a necessitating of the bridging of the income gap). I am also for the most part very much against war unless absolutely necessary for the survival and well-being of the nation.

As for information, I will give some if I count as a member of the Left.

Well, I think the example of Jesus points to a life of simplicity ,even if we are blessed with much wealth I think Jesus would frown upon living luxuriously when there are poor in our midst who need help and are considered an inconvenience.
Just one thought. Peace,Carlan

Poverty: 14.2 percent of all people lived below the poverty line, whereas a much smaller percent of the population controls much of the wealth. It is children that suffer the most in an impoverished climate. Those who are in poverty do not have sufficient resources in order to live healthy lives.

War: people die in war. If the war is something that is not absolutely necessary and waged with upmost care, it is not proper justification for the deaths of one’s own citizens and the citizens of another country.

Life: this is generally seen as an issue of the Right, so this does not count as a leftist position, I think.

Equal chance for fulfillment of one’s potential: This is my wording for the same philosophy GK Chesterton proposed: distributism. As widely as possible, the means of the production of goods should be spread so as to permit a greater chance of each person to fulfill his or her potential. It is a redistribution of the means of capital, but not of capital.
