If a house/store has been blessed... can it still be haunted?

IMO a house cannot be haunted at all. people may be possessed in exceedingly rare cases by demons (not ghosts) but not places.
Actually, there was an exorcist (or bishop with past exorcism experience?) on either CA Radio or Ave Maria Radio a few months ago who said that place infestations were more common than person possessions. I wasn’t able to hear the whole talk (it was in the car, between two appointments I had). I didn’t get to hear all that he recommended, however I did hear him speak of holy water, the prayer to St. Michael, of course confession and the Eucharist, and to have the place blessed. He spent the most time on the real need for confession.

Someone from a Catholic Charismatic group once shared about a house which though blessed by priests many times still was haunted, and he gave his opinion on the matter. Some priests may not believe in the devil or evil spirits or whatever and thus see exorcism and house/shop blessings to be just blessing, nothing more. Though I do agree with the other posters- your case probably is more of house settling then any supernatural activity. After all, you haven’t seen or felt anything (other than fear of the supernatural), right?

Yeah I guess you’re right. I can get pretty paranoid late at night (and the coffee I have to drink makes it worse :o ) Maybe I really should take a break from all this ghost story stuff. 🤷

Yeah. No guarantees here but coffee, for some reason especially bad coffee, can make anyone overly suspicious.

While I do agree that the problem is most probably caused by the shifting of the house or by wind, demons do exist and may be the cause. I would suggest sprinkling some blessed salt and holy water all about the house, if there is a demonic presence, it will know that it is not welcome.

Holy water is a powerful sacremental which must not be forgotten or brushed off as superstitious. When St. Teresa of Avila was being tormented by a demonic vision, she tried to bless herself to make it go away, but it would not. She saw that there was some holy water near her, so she took it and threw it at the demon, and it never returned.

The sprinking of these two sacramentals is something that can be done discreetly without your parents knowing; although if they do happen to see, don’t be ashamed of your faith. 🙂

I help run an internet cafe. However, there are times when I have to work really late (and my customers are all quietly content with listening to their headphones thank goodness) and I hear strange creaking noises from upstairs like someone was walking.
Have you experienced anything else? Rotten stench? Extreme coldness? Items moved around? Do you feel any “presence”?
My parents already told me had it already been blessed. However, even though my parents are good Catholics, they aren’t really huge fans of ghost stories and the supernatural so I don’t think it would be a good idea to talk to them about it. They may not take me seriously. 😦
Can a house still have a ghost even though it’s been blessed?
In the book, The Dark Sacrament, there are stories in there where a priest would have to come multiple times, celebrating a mass and blessing the home. It’s possible. There’s a big difference between a ghost and a demon.

Thank you and thank you all for explaining. As much a I’d like to have a ghost experience, right now I’m just not daring enough yet. I’ll keep your explanations in mind the next time it happens (now that I think about, this building is pretty old)
No, you don’t want a ghost experience. No, no, no.

Here’s my belief: Ghosts are around for a reason. They are humans who have shed their earthly body but remain stuck here on earth. Their reasons for being stuck should be found out and they should be helped.

These ghost hunting shows are terribly done. They have no idea what they are doing. They think it’s “COOL” to measure a ghost’s activity and get scared like they are at an amusement park. That’s simply not funny.

You have to remember that these people were once human beings in the flesh and they should be treated as such, not as a novelty. I’m not condemning you or saying you have this mentality, but it’s certainly common.

:amen:

To go seeking a “ghost experience” is very dangerous. See Demonic Deceptions.
I knew we could agree on that part 😃 😛

I see so much of this. “Oh, it would be so COOL to see a ghost and have things move around and…” It’s the biggest bunch of rubbish. I get mad every time I see even a partial episode of a ghost hunting show.

People are really proud to have ghosts in their museum or home or hotel. It’s just senseless. These poor spirits. I want to help them, not hold them here so that I can make money from them or get some kind of killjoy from messing with them.

May our Heavenly Father have mercy upon us all (including “ghosts”)

Peace…

Yea but to even be able to attempt to help ghosts pass on you need to communicate with them or investigate possibly why they are still on earth.

I see no harm in investigating in itself. I have an extreme interest int he paranormal and had ghostly experiences myself but I haven’t actually seen one full blown yet. I know plenty of down to earth people who have and don’t talk about it much.

I believe that there are people who have gifts or a higher sense of some sort and see them more often than others.

I am also very catholic

The church has no official stance on ghosts believe me I researched it a ton. The church states that it acknowledges there are things we just don’t know, but all things ultimately come under God.

What ghosts are is a debate but there is a lot of evidence that it points to deceased people.

There are just too many experiences and claims to dismiss ghosts in my opinion and people without an experience can easily just say nah it’s rubbish.

I do agree however it is wrong to go make a hype out of it and pursue ghosts for fun to fool around which many shows do.

However I think that validly investigating claims with a scientific and “debunking/skeptical” mindset is not at all wrong. Even trying to seek an experience out of curiosity (without being occult) is fine but don’t make it an obsession or try to seek money or fame from it because that is wrong.

Although this show is on Sci fi and on TV I think “Ghost Hunters” is the most valid show when investigating claims since they are trying to help people first and foremost, pursue evidence, and increase awareness. They also had cases where it actually was a demon and in the show they had acknowledged catholic priests blessing the house or performing an exorcism of the place but it wasn’t on TV obviously.

They come up with some interesting things and sometimes nothing which seems more real.

I believe in demon haunts and ghostly haunts and their differences.

Not that all ghosts are merely demons posing as human spirits. While maybe in some cases, there are many cases it doesn’t match up.

I am really interested in the paranormal so anyone who has any thoughts or experiences please share.

Even objections please share, i’m always up for for a debate.

It depends on what you mean by communicate. If a living person senses a deceased person (ghost), they can simply talk to them without the ghost having to talk back. For example, the living person can openly tell the ghost about forgiveness and mercy and tell them to go into the light. In my experience, a ghost has spoken through the living people they haunt and I communicate back and forth with them. This can be read from my blogs.

Investigation for what reason? Why research the paranormal? For scientific purposes? You know as well as I that science will never, I repeat never be able to “prove” the supernatural or paranormal. Did I say never?
I believe that there are people who have gifts or a higher sense of some sort and see them more often than others.
This is true.

Okay.

It’s good that the Church doesn’t define these things. It shouldn’t.

It’s pretty simple from my experience what they are. And the “7 kinds of ghosts” that beckymarie has alluded to mirrors my beliefs.
There are just too many experiences and claims to dismiss ghosts in my opinion and people without an experience can easily just say nah it’s rubbish.
Of course.

Science is not a Christian’s friend in my opinion. When you attempt to use science to understand and investigate God you come up empty. If you use theology to understand science you get the same thing. They are, in my opinion, two different paths that need to be separated.

I can only try to dissuade people from wanting to “experience” a ghost. It’s just simply asanine to have this mentality to want to “experience a ghost”. You want to experience them and I want to stop experiencing them so much. You just don’t realize the complications and responsibilities that come with this.

But, they aren’t trying to help the ghost. That’s the problem. All of the attention is on the living, while ignoring the dead and their problems. You have to solve both. And ghost hunting shows do more harm than good.

Of course they are different.

I’ve experienced very few demons posing as ghosts. If they do I find out real quick and they are exposed. It’s not that hard.

I’ve shared mine already. Develop a hobby that involves crafts and basketweaving. Forget the paranormal.
Even objections please share, i’m always up for for a debate.
They also
I’ve shared these already. It’s up to you to listen.
