If a man is saved

Several years ago a friend told me that it was written in Scripture that if a man is saved so too is his whole family. He actually showed me the passage, but I have long since forgotten where it is. Since I pray daily for my children to come back to the church this is of great interest to me. I brought it up to another friend recently and he gave me Acts 16:31, but I don’t think this is what I had seen before. Does anyone know of another passage that says this?

The passage in question is probably Acts 2:36-41.

The passage says:

Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified."
Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brethren, what shall we do?”
And Peter said to them, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children and to all that are far off, every one whom the Lord our God calls to him." And he testified with many other words and exhorted them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.

Please note that this is not a guarantee of salvation to a person’s family. Our faith is one which makes us adopted sons and daughters of the Lord. We become part of God’s household and scripture attests to this. Likewise, the parable of the Prodigal Son has direct application to members of the household. Until the wayward son returned and repented he was according to the parable “dead.” Once he returned and repented his father said that “he was dead and is alive; he was lost, and is found.” See Luke 15:22-32

I believe you are looking for 1 Cor. 7:14 For the unbelieving husband is consecrated through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is consecrated through her husband. Otherwise, your children would be unclean, but as it is they are holy.

Of course, this verse, taken out of context, may seem to support the position that our unbelieving loved ones are saved through the faith of their believing family members, it isn’t saying that in context. Nor would it seem to square with the rest of Scripture, which must always be taken into consideration.

However, we are not to give up hope for anyone’s salvation since we cannot know the inner workings of anyone’s heart. God loves our loved ones much more than even we do and desires that they be saved. So, keep on praying and trust in God’s mercy and love. He hears your prayers for them. And you are living the witness of your life before them, which is a greater help to them than you can imagine.

*Acts 16:30 and brought them out and said, “Men, what must I do to be saved?” 16:31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” 16:32 And they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all that were in his house. *

Verse 32 shows tho that the gospel was preached not only to the head of the household, but to all the others as well.

The baptist conducted a survey and discovered some interesting data about church attendance. ( survey was about 5 years ago)

If you can convince a child to come to church , about 13% of the time the rest of the child’s family were come too.

If you convince a wife/mother to come to church, about 27 % of the time the rest of the family will come also.

However if you convince a Dad/husband to come to church , 89 % of the time the rest of the family will join him.

I sorry I don’t recall the source of this survey I just had the numbers in my notes.

So try to convince dads/husbands to come to church
