If a person consumes communion host while in a state of mortal sin, is this considered another mortal sin?

Hello,

I went to mass this morning but could not do confession before the mass started. During mass I received communion and after mass I went to a priest to confess my sin. During confession, while the priest was giving me penance, I for some reason recalled that I received communion during the mass which I shouldn’t have. I think I should have informed the priest that “I also took communion while in a state of mortal sin - can I add this sin onto the list?” but confession was nearly over and I didn’t say this to the priest.

so do I have another mortal sin - the fact that I took communion under the state of mortal sin - to confess?

Objectively speaking, yes. It’s the additional grave sin of sacrilege. Subject to the other two conditions (full knowledge and complete consent), it would constitute an additional mortal sin.

You have already been forgiven, but I would make sure the next time you go to confession that you mention that you forgot to confess that you received communion while in a state of mortal sin.
