Will God make sure this person receives the Sacrament of water Baptism before they die?
 
Not necessarily. Catechumens who desire Baptism sometimes die before they receive water Baptism. The Church affirms they are saved through a Baptism of desire. That’s also why they can have a Catholic funeral Mass should they die before they receive the Sacraments of Initiation.
 
Not necessarily. The three kings from the East who came to Jesus’ birth may have died before the gospel reached them but Baptism of Desire would have saved them.
 
When I was at Mass where hundreds of catechumens were being introduced, the priest has said to them that “If you die before completing the process of receiving baptism, you have every right to have a Catholic funeral Mass as well as a right to buried on Catholic cemetery.”
