If abortion was legally a murder, what would the punishment be? Would it be the same all other murders… death penalty or life imprisonment? What do you think the punishment should be for murdering an unborn child? I think it should be life imprisonment.

I think sentencing would have to take into consideration the subjective situations of the woman getting the abortion and the other people involved. Life in prison for the abortion practitioner sounds right to me, but for the woman I think it should be something much less, at least for the near future if abortion were to become illegal, considering the misinformation and warped cultural values that are still out there.

Once societal norms had been established (basically get rid of the right to murder attitude we have at the moment), then it would have to be punished the exact same as homicide (as it is legally classed so).

Once a Baby in the womb is recognized as a ‘Person’ then it has the full protection of the Law, and the intention to procure and carry out an abortion would have to be treated the exact same as Conspiracy to commit Homicide. That means in the USA (in certain states) the Abortion Practitioner would be tried for several counts of 1st Degree Homicide and could receive the Death Penalty, in the UK it would be a Life Sentence (with a possibility of Parole after 13-25 years)

I wonder what the likelihood is of making abortion illegal within the next 30 years? From what I have heard, it is pretty low because of Obama’s appointments to the Supreme Court. They are liberal and pro-abortion.

I don’t think it should life imprisonment, I also think our justice system today is pathetic. We like to pretend that we are exacting justice and revenge for murderers etc, and we seem to pat ourselves on the back. We celebrate giving criminals “hard-time”. I think we would be much better off as a society if we worked on a rehabilitation focused imprisonment. Repeat offenses would drop and people who have made terrible mistakes would have opportunities to rectify them. Locking someone in a cell for 60 years is not justice.

That is why Barack Obama has to go in January 2013.

The pro life articles, news, comments from pro life activists etc. I see online are confident that abortion will be made illegal.

I was actually going to answer this way earlier but got distracted on a huge rant about how I would overhaul the sentencing guidelines currently in place for various categories of crimes. I’ll just discuss those ideas with my husband later, cause I got pretty off topic.

to actually answer the question, I think anyone performing an abortion should face life without parole.

if the woman already has minor children in her care, she should face a fine and get tossed off any aid she receives.

if she doesn’t already have children she should face jail time. (not ready for kids because you’re a career woman? good luck picking up your career after some time in the slammer.)

I think that would be sufficient incentive for people to keep their legs closed until they’re willing to take responsibility for the potential result nature intended.

what would actually happen? as (name removed by moderator) said, many states already have trigger laws.
