If Adam had not sinned by partaking of the forbidden fruit, would it have still been possible for Cain, Abel, or any decendents further down to commit an original sin and cause our race to be fallen? Also, if it were possible, wouldn’t that mean that had Cain commited the first sin then only half of the human race would be fallen and need a savior? I am confused because that doesn’t sound right, yet it seems to logically follow from the dogma that original sin depends on original ancestors as a source.

Had there never been an original sin, I’m not sure that there ever would have been a Cain or Abel.

Seems like Adam and Eve were destined to live forever without labor or toil in paradise prior to the Original Sin.

waits expectantly to be told how Adam and Eve are nothing but mythical figures and there never was a single man or woman and that 1,000 to 10,000 people all popped into existence at the same time, that there never was a garden of eden and nothing of the sort could have ever happened

Well’ never know about the Cain & Able thing - at least in this life.
But:
Since God created us with free will, I’m sure somewhere along the way, someone would have “bitten”. (excuse reaaallllyyyy bad pun!)

I guess what i really meant is that without Adam / Eve’s original sin they would never have had Children. So the only ones capable of the original sin would have been Adam and Eve.

So without the apple nobody could have fallen close to the tree.

Hmmmm…

It is traditionally taught that original sin is inherited from Adam. So, one of his descendants could not have committed the original sin since he had multiple descendants and probably not all humans are descended from the same one of them.

Also, Adam’s special status as the head of the human race meant that his sin could affect all men–with two very noteworthy exceptions.

Well, that helps a little bit. I have thought of original sin as not just an action but part of the very makeup of our being - somewhat like our DNA but on a mysterious mystical level. Therefore, it is passed down through generations. I figured a decendent of Adam could thereby create a first sin and pass it down to through his family line. Now, I see that the sin would have had to have been passed down to the decendent before he could have it to pass in turn. Of course had Adam not sinned there would have been nothing to pass down, and never could have been. I think I get it now, thanks for getting my gears working on this one!

There certainly would have. The command to “be fruitful and multiply” preceded the fall. And God’s punishment after the fall wasn’t, “You will have children,” but “You will have pain in childbirth.”
