Did it appear to you that HGTV deliberately squelched coverage of the “gay wedding” on the AIDS float? The fact that this would happen received a fair amount of publicity, and one of the announcers started to introduce the “wedding,” but next thing you knew, a band was being shown. Saved me from walking out of the room.

I had read the “wedding” was going to happen and just didn’t watch this year.😦 It would have ruined the rest of the parade anyhow.

Didn’t know about it - luckily didn’t see it, or I would have switched the channel.

For the first time in 34 years, my husband and I did not watch the Rose Bowl parade or tape/TiVo it.

I know that our puny gesture won’t bring the gay lobby to its knees, or even mildly annoy them. We’re like one flea on a St. Bernard–not even enough to cause the dog to itch.

But at least our consciences are clear.

First I’ve heard of it. We did watch because we wanted to see the NoVa high school band. I didn’t notice the aids float. Must have been out of the room right then.

Didn’t watch, but glad HGTV did that.
It’s amazing. A very high percentage of HGTV shows features a gay couple. I would have thought that HGTV, of all the networks, would be most excited about showing a gay wedding. I’m kind of puzzled.

Maybe they realize that besides gay people, the OTHER large percentage of their viewing audience is middle-aged, church-going women like ME!

  1. Gay wedding sponsored by AIDS = vomit.
  2. This is just the beginning, in a few short years, they will be shoving this down your throat, only this time it will be at the Super Bowl! Don’t think it can happen??? First rule of advertising, whoever pays the most…gets their ad placed. If GLAAD can scrounge up say
$10million to spend, I doubt they would be turned down by anyone.

If HGTV had been obvious in giving the float little coverage, I think the LGBT organizations would have complained by now. So I checked a popular gay blog, to see what was written about the float. The author said it was onscreen for about 30 seconds, and no one in the combox disagreed with it. Does that length of time fit your experience?

No, my experience was that you saw the float pull up in view, maybe 15 seconds, heard the commentator say a few words about the float, say what “was” going to happen, then say something like “Let’s listen to the vows,” and then - wham! - the picture and sound changed to a school band. This was HGTV in HD.
