I noticed that there is a lot of disagreement between different factions in the Catholic Church based on a video by a Catholic apologist - Michael Voris.

How do you decide which authority is correct? If your priest violates Catholic dogma, perhaps he openly supports gay clergy and the abandonment of celibacy for instance - what then does a Catholic do if he/she must submit to authority? Do you just say yes to the priest instead of using scripture to correct him?

Dear friend,

For a normal practicing Catholic, the authority that he can depend on is that of the magisterium of the Catholic Church. From Judas on, there have been wayward clergy in the Church. But there is no lack of a strong, consistent teaching voice in the Catholic Church. The Church is one in what it formally teaches and has been so for over two thousand years–despite wayward clergy and and extreme reactionaries.
